Peddle, Shirley Mae

March 20, 1943 – August 26, 2021

It is with sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Shirley was surrounded by her family as she was reunited with her beloved Mur.

Shirley was born in Southey, Saskatchewan on March 20, 1943.
She was the third child born to Walter and Orma Murray. She grew up on the family farm in Cupar, Saskatchewan with her siblings Clarice, Jim, Brian and Alvin.

Shirley was a quiet, shy child. In grade one she met her best friend, a boy, named Murray Peddle (her Mur).

They were together 64 years and celebrated 50 years of marriage before Murray passed away in 2013.

Shirley and Murray were married on July 28, 1962. They began their
married life in Regina where their daughter Michelle was born in April of 1963.

In the next 16 months, Shirley and Murray made moves to Radville
then Shaunavon, where son Kevin was born in September of 1964.

A move to Melville came next, and then in 1968 Shirley and Murray moved to Craik where daughter Wanda was born in January of 1972.

Shirley enjoyed life in Craik and made many life-long friends with her neighbours.

Shirley worked in the office at the Coop during their early years in Craik.

She was a curler and the occasional golfer. She belonged to the Willing Workers Club and became known for her cooking skills.

In 1980, Shirley and Murray built and started Peddles Place at the Craik Regional Park. After 8 years they donated the building to the park, which continues to provide ice cream and treats to everyone who visits.

In 1988, Shirley and Murray opened the Prairie View restaurant. People came from miles around for some of Shirley’s great homemade food. After they closed the restaurant in 1993, Shirley continued to feed the people of Craik. She catered to many events
in town; whether it was a wedding, graduation, community or family event, everyone enjoyed Shirley’s fabulous food.

Shirley was a devoted wife and best friend to Murray. Together they raised their 3 children and watched their family grow with each new member being welcomed with unconditional love.

When Murray became ill in 2008, Shirley faithfully cared for him. A stroke in 2010 started Shirley’s own gradual health decline.

After Murray’s passing, Shirley with the help of her children, remained in the family home. A major surgery in 2015 necessitated her move to the Craik Health Centre where she resided till her passing.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff that went above and beyond with providing her care, becoming her second family.

Shirley was predeased by her mother Orma (1985), her father Walter (1993), brother Jim (2018) and husband Murray (2013).

Shirley will be remembered for her compassionate, generous and kind heart… and her amazing popcorn balls.

Shirley was very loved and will be greatly missed by her family.
Michelle and Henry, Sarah and Devan (Zhack, Cree, Gabbi, Alexx, Annia, Draye, Lynne, Anthon, Honour, Zinnaya), Kane, Joseph (Jonathan, Boaz), David and Katie (Odin, Archer), Kevin and Joy, Kandis and Grant (Deis, Jade, Sage), Jordan and Brianne, Jesse and Jessica (Kaebri, Kace, Winston), Wanda and Shawn, Shaelyn and Damian (Cali), Brittney and Logan (Brynlee), Sydney and Christopher, Sister Clarice, Brothers: Brian and Alvin (Angie), Sister-in-law: Sheron, many nieces, nephews and their families.

A family service for Shirley will be held and she will be laid to rest beside her husband Murray.

in Saskatoon.

She married Larry Simonsen of Hanley, SK in 1968. Larry ran a

More recently, she gave her time to the Hanley Housing Authority.
Marlene and Larry had a son, Christian, in 1969 and a second son,

to be present at the grandkids’ events.

Marlene was predeceased by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her siblings, children and grandchildren.
