Long & Lean

The carrots in Krista Allan’s garden reached new lengths this season. Some are almost 18 inches long. The straight and narrow carrots may have benefitted from soft soil or perhaps they had to stretch deep into the soil seeking moisture during the dry start of the growing season. If your garden has produced exceptional or unusual produce, please send a picture so we may share with our readers. Email photos to davidsonleader@sasktel.net or text 306-567-8638.

Getting Ready for Friday

The Davidson Raiders senior football team began practising last week in preparation for this Friday’s game against Rosetown. It’s a brand new six-man football season for the Raiders in more ways than one.

They’re playing in a new conference against teams they’ve never played before. They’ll be playing against bigger schools, including Clavet, last year’s provincial champs. Their opponents in 2A, Conference 3 this season are: Rosetown, Biggar, Clavet, Outlook, Kindersley and Unity. The Raiders had 14 players out to practice last Tuesday evening. Coach Jason Low said they are expecting five more players on the team. The team is made up of players in grades 9 to 12 from Davidson, Loreburn, Kenaston and Craik schools.

Burgers to Beat MS

Delivering bags full of Teenburgers to Panther Industries was one of several stops Davidson A&W manager Cristy Sandoval made last Thursday for Burgers to Beat MS Day. The A&W delivered burgers to various businesses in Davidson so that people, who couldn’t make it out to the A&W, could still help the cause. A&W gives $2 from every Teenburger sold on Burgers to Beat MS Day to  Multiple Sclerosis (MS) research and support programs. Pictured are Panther’s Cindy Desiatnyk and Clayton Schneider with Sandoval (centre). Panther ordered 22 burgers for lunch and had another order coming for the evening crew. Davidson A&W sold 367 Teenburgers on Burger Day, breaking last year’s record sales of 261.
