Dorothy Evelyn Storey
Dorothy passed away peacefully Friday, August 23, 2019, at the age of 93, in the Central Okanagan Hospice after a full life, well lived.
Dorothy was born January 29, 1926 at McDowall, Saskatchewan. She was raised there, the youngest of nine children. She went to school in McDowall and then started working for the Saskatchewan Telephone company. She later transferred to Davidson, Saskatchewan, where she met and married Lorne Storey in 1952.
Dorothy and Lorne farmed south of Girvin, Saskatchewan for many years. Dorothy was active in the Community and the Church, she enjoyed many close friendships and led a busy life. Lorne and Dorothy had a custom harvesting business and combined in the US and Saskatchewan over 30 years. They later became “snowbirds” and travelled south for the Winter.
After Lorne’s passing, Dorothy moved to Kelowna in 2009, to be nearer family. She enjoyed her years living at Missionwood and made many new friends. Dorothy will be always remembered as a kind, wise and wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Dorothy is lovingly remembered by her daughters Ione (Douglas) Colville of Calgary and Jennifer (Eugene) Thompson of Kelowna, and by her grandchildren Veronica McKitrick, Andrea Thompson and Michael Thompson and her great-grandchildren Rosemary McKitrick and Kyler Thompson. She is also survived by her sister Ethel Johnstone of Lloydminster, sisters-in-law Milan Puckett, Bonnie Storey, Irene Storey and brother-in-law Randy Storey and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was pre-deceased by her husband Lorne, son-in-law Thomas Irvine, parents Adam and Janet Johnstone, her siblings Janet, Mary, Jean, James, Alexandria, Andrew, Jessie and their spouses.
A Celebration of Life was held in Davidson, Sk. Saturday September 14, 2019 at 2 PM in the Catholic Hall, preceded by a small graveside service in Saskatoon at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, at 10 AM where she will be laid to rest beside Lorne.
The family would like to thank Dr. L Pavan and the staff at the Hospice in Kelowna, IH Homecare, We Care and Bayshore Nursing for their excellent care and kindness. For friends so wishing, donations can be made to the Davidson Health Center or charity of one’s choice.

Generosity recognized
DAVIDSON—Although he never was a member, Robert Stephenson must have valued the importance of the Davidson Senior Citizen’s organization to the community.
The seniors’ club received a substantial donation from Robert’s estate. This donation was recognized last Tuesday with the unveiling of a plaque that will hang in the centre. Robert’s sister Grace Surkan attended the unveiling and was pleased to see her brother’s generosity recognized.
Robert passed away Nov. 23, 2018 at the age of 76. Born in Davidson on Dec. 4, 1941, Robert lived in the community his entire life. He farmed in the Cherry Grove district west of Davidson, the third generation of Stephensons to farm the land. It was a mixed farm with grain and livestock.
He retired from farming in 2008 and moved into Davidson.
Robert’s was a constant presence in the community. He would attend community events, public meetings, suppers and socials and was a regular at the rink where he enjoyed watching hockey and curling games.
Seniors’ Club member Mary Ann Chomyshen said she’s known Robert for as long as she can remember.
“He was our neighbour when I lived on the farm and we are even distantly related,” Chomyshen said during the unveiling. “He was always a friendly and good neighbour.”
She said when Robert and his mother moved to town, Robert would drop by the Senior Centre for coffee occasionally during Senior’s Bridge and he always supported the Alzheimer Society’s Coffee Break fundraiser, also held at the centre.
“Robert must have realized that our members are reaching a point where it is difficult for us to fundraise, as most of us are in our eighties and nineties,” Chomyshen said of the generous donation that will help them keep the club running.
She said the plaque would serve as a reminder of Robert’s generosity, ensuring he won’t be forgotten.
