John (Jack) Nelson, aged 90 years, passed away peacefully at Davidson Health Centre on Sunday, July 20, 2014 with family at his side. Jack was born May 23,1924 at Stalwart, Saskatchewan. After receiving his education at Davenport School, a short walk from his childhood home, he began farming. He married Grace Thresher April 16, 1952. He worked very hard and was always ready to lend a helping hand to family and friends when needed. Jack loved gardening and picking berries, woodworking, playing cards, dancing, and old time music. Jack loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much and loved to attend their functions. His infectious smile will be remembered by all that ever met him. Jack will be deeply missed by his loving family of five children, 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Children: Evelyn Zehr (Fred Kirby), Gilbert (Michele) Nelson, Judy (Brent) Anderson, Mary (Rodney) Measner and Clifford (June) Nelson; grandchildren: Cory (Ila) Zehr, David (Michelle Dominey), Kimberly (Chad) Mercier, Dawn (Dennis) Bennett; Jeffrey (Sandi) Nelson, Jeremy (Nicole) Nelson, Trevor Nelson and Travis Nelson; Michael (Aimee) Anderson, Marian (Tyler) Ward, Denise Anderson (Keegan McNab); Holly (Justin) Otte and Dane Measner (Nicole Cooper); Lexie Nelson, Jonathan Nelson, and Ryan Nelson; great-grandchildren: Nathan and Jacob Zehr, Matthew Tuplin (Savanah Wright); Haileigh and Mason Mercier; Blair and Bek Bennett; Shayla and Makayla Nelson; Jaxon Nelson; Logan and Davin Anderson; Owen and Ethan Ward; Taylor Otte; and great-great-granddaughters: Anika and Sienna Tuplin; brothers-in-law: Donald Hahn and George Thresher; sisters-in-law: Dolores Nelson and Verna Nelson; numerous special family members. Jack was predeceased by his parents William and Martha Nelson; loving wife Grace Nelson (Thresher) (2011); grandson Allen Nelson; infant sister; brothers Bill and Robert Nelson; sisters-in-law LuEtta Thresher, Hazel Hahn and Bernice Federspiel; brother-in-law Russell Federspiel. The Funeral Service/Celebration of Jack’s life was held Saturday, July 26, 2014, 2 p.m. at Liberty Memorial Hall, Liberty, Saskatchewan conducted by Rev Diane Eurig. Memories were given by grandchildren: Marian Ward and Michael Anderson. Honorary Pallbearers were all who shared in Jack’s life. Active Pallbearers were grandsons: Cory Zehr, Travis Nelson, Jeffrey Nelson, Jeremy Nelson, Michael Anderson and Dane Measner. Interment followed at Liberty Cemetery. Memorial donations were directed to: Liberty Cemetery Fund, Davidson Health Care Foundation Trust, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. Lunch was served by Liberty Funeral Lunch Group. Hanson’s Funeral Home of Davidson were in care of arrangements.
