Ashley Vincent Stewart of Davidson, Sask. passed away at the age of 76 years at the Davidson Health Centre on March 9, 2010 after a short illness.
Ashley was born at Cabri, Sask. on Dec. 16, 1933. He received his education in Cabri, Sask. Ashley married Ida Stafford of Cabri, Sask. on Feb. 21, 1958. In his early years, Ashley owned and ran the BA Service Station. In later years, he opened a Stedman’s store and some time later he became associated with the Bumper to Bumper stores. Ashley came to the Davidson area in 1956. He was a member of the Davidson United Church, the Davidson town council and the fire department.
Ashley is survived by his loving family: wife, Ida; children, Susan (Brent) Storey of Davidson, Sask., Shalene (Kevin), Shannon (friend, Eric); Bradley (Lori) Stewart, Jeremy, Janaya of Grande Prairie, Alta.; Steven (Karen) Stewart, Zachary of Melville, Sask. and Leanne (Barry Strange), Tauren, Jordan of Middle Lake, Sask.; sister, Beryl (George) Schinbein of Cabri, Sask. and brothers, Clifton (Lillian) Stewart of Calgary, Alta. and Dale Stewart of Victoria, B.C.; sisters-in-law, Mavis Stewart, Marg Stewart and Ethel Stewart; also numerous nieces and nephews.
Ashley is predeceased by parents, Alec and Ester; infant son, David; brothers, Howard, Calvin, Lloyd, Davy; and sisters-in-law, Blanche, Dorthy and Kim.
The funeral service was held on March 15, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Davidson United Church with Rev. Diane Eurig officiating.
Interment was at the Davidson Cemetery, Davidson, Sask. Hanson’s Funeral Home was in care of arrangements.

After a courageous battle with cancer, Wayne Michael Nizinkevich passed away on February 23, 2010 at the Outlook District Health Centre at the age of 65.
Wayne was born on Oct. 29, 1944 at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon. He came home to the homestead where they would live from spring to fall and then winters were spent in town so the children could go to school. His siblings to come along were a brother Frank and a sister Diane. Wayne finished high school in Kenaston and then went to school to be a mechanic. After that he worked at various jobs in B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan. The job that carried him through the winters that he enjoyed the most was working with sheet metal. He became a crew chief and did this for several years.
He was married Oct. 5, 1973 in Edmonton to Linda Kessir from Onoway, Alta. They were blessed with four wonderful children: Angie, Ryan, Sherry and Melissa. In 1982 Wayne and Linda stayed at the farm which was the homestead to raise their family.
Wayne was a man of many talents. He loved farming, hunting, restoring cars, collecting guns and completing a R.T.M. home that was moved onto the farm. He also was very well read especially in history. Wayne was an excellent mechanic. He was patient and would not quit until the job was done. He was known for having quite a sense of humour and especially for his one-liners which seemed to roll off the tip of his tongue.
He was very proud of all his children, Angie (Dan) Courtney, Ryan (Shelly) Nizinkevich, Sherry and Melissa Nizinkevich. He loved his grandchildren Brandon and Shawn Nizinkevich and Hailey Courtney. He had a love for animals and they were a comfort to him in his battle with cancer. He volunteered as a Boy Scout leader when Ryan participated. Wayne was a member of the Strongfield Elks and attended meetings faithfully. He was also very faithful to St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church in Kenaston.
Wayne is predeceased by his father Mike.
Wayne is survived by his mother, Annie; by his wife, Linda; children, Angie (Dan) Courtney, Ryan (Shelly) Nizinkevich, Sherry and Melissa Nizinkevich; grandchildren, Brandon and Shawn Nizinkevich and Hailey Courtney. He is also survived by brother, Frank (Barb) Nizinkevich; sister, Diane (Bill) Wall; Uncle Joe and Aunt Dorthy Nizinkevich; aunt Annie; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Wayne’s Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church. It was followed by lunch at the Kenaston hall where many shared their memories of Wayne.

Esther Rosella Willner, 89, of Davidson, passed away on Dec. 10 in the Davidson and District Health Centre in Davidson.
Esther, daughter of Julius and Ottelie Johnson, was born on Jan. 8, 1920 at home in the Hawarden district. Growing up in the “dirty thirties”, she hurried home from a country school to many chores: feeding chickens, and turkeys, churning butter, milking cows and stitching quilts. She worked hard all of her life, but always with a spirit of hope and a gentle respect for everyone and everything around her.
Esther met Edgar Willner, who was farming north of Bethlehem Church and they were married on Nov. 1, 1946. In 1948, they moved to the farm east of Davidson where they raised six children.
Esther devoted herself to providing healthy food for her family by raising chickens and growing huge gardens. She had a gift for making bread and buns. Esther volunteered to help organize and serve many church and school suppers and to teach many young girls to sew in 4H classes. She loved to read and worked many years in the Davidson School libraries.
Ever patient, always kind, she found her life’s contentment in making her family and others happy. Esther is predeceased by her husband, Edgar Robert Willner. She lives on in the loving memories and hearts of her family of three sons and three daughters, 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Arlene (Eugene) Sorochuk of Norquay and family, Loraine (Travis) Polischuk, Nate and Kael, Coralie Sorochuk, Lesia (Dustin) Friesen and Colleen Sorochuk; Lorne (Marilyn) Willner of Davidson and family, Brady Willner, Lyndon Willner and Linnea Willner; Terry Riviere of Saskatoon and family, Danielle (Danton) Danielson, Robert Riviere and Michelle Riviere; Beryl Lepage and family, Paul Lepage, David Lepage, Mark Lepage and Katy Lepage; Randy (Debbie Murray) and family, Jeff Willner, Jason Willner and Jordan Willner; and Brian (Georgina) Willner of Olympia, Washington. She is also survived by one sister, Doris Bonnell of McMinnville, Oregon.
Funeral services were held on Dec. 15 at Davidson United Church with Rev. Diane Eurig officiating. The choir was in attendance, with Nancy Wilkins as organist. Granddaughters, Dani Danielson, Loraine Polischuk and Colleen Sorochuk read Scripture passages and Lorne Willner gave the Reflections of Esther’s life, followed by a Powerpoint presentation of Esther, created by her daughters, Terry and Beryl. Granddaughters, Katy Lepage and Linnea Willner were ushers and granddaughters, Lesia Friesen and Michelle Riviere presided at the register. Active pallbearers were her grandsons, Rob Riviere, Lyndon Willner, Brady Willner, Jason Willner, Jeff Willner, Mark Lepage, David Lepage and Paul Lepage.
Interment was in the family plot at Davidson cemetery, with Hanson’s Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Henry Nicholas Siroski was born on Dec. 15, 1920. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Feb. 2, 2010.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Maizie; sons, Les (Pat), Barry and David (Susan); grandchildren, Jennifer (Jesse) Schneider, Shaleen (John Paul) Ross, Shannon (Mark) Thoner, Justin Siroski, Bradley (Andrea) Siroski, Tara (Jody) George, Jackie (Dallas) Loberg, Steven Siroski, Shelley (Tyler) Townsend, Sarah (Keith) Siroski, Shelby Siroski and Jillian Siroski; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Francis Masich; one brother-in-law; five sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Steve and Mary; his son, Don (Knotter) Siroski; five brothers and five sisters.
Henry spent his life as an active member of the Kenaston/Davidson community. He was a member of the Kenaston Credit Union board and the Kenaston Parish Council. He loved the land and farmed for 59 years. Church and his faith were a big part of his life. His family always came first and they will miss him dearly.
Prayers were held on Feb. 8, 2010 and the Mass of Christian Burial was held on Feb. 9, 2010, both at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Davidson. Interment at St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Kenaston, Sask.

It is with deep regret we announce the passing of Lorne Bennett Schollar (1937-2010) in Yellowknife on Jan. 23, 2010.
Lorne was born in Craik, Sask. At the age of 18, he joined the RCMP and his first posting was in Selkirk, Man. on Aug. 21, 1957. From there, Lorne had postings in the Yukon, Grise Fiord, Newfoundland and points in between. While in Trepassey, Newfoundland, he met and married his wife Joan St. Croix and started a family. Lorne moved his wife and daughter Geraldine to Yellowknife in August, 1976. His son Dale was born a month later. This would be Lorne’s last posting with the RCMP. He retired from the force in 1982 with 27 years of service.
Following retirement, he continued to work for local companies such as Esso, Secure Check, Expedite North and Snowfield Resources doing barge work with his friend Dave Smith. Lorne was an avid hunter and hunting guide. He guided many seasons at Point Lake Lodge. He was also fond of his sheep hunting expeditions in Norman Wells. Lorne gave of his time to committees and organizations such as the NWT and Canadian Wildlife Federations, NWT Mining and Heritage Society, Dry Grad, Northern Addictions and Food Rescue. He was very active in matters concerning the City of Yellowknife. Lorne will be fondly remembered and sadly missed as he touched the hearts of everyone he met.

• While vacationing at his favourite winter destination, Robert (Bob) S. Crowley passed away on January 20, 2010. Bob was born in Kenaston, Sask. in August of 1937 and when he was a young boy the family moved to Glenside, Sask. where Bob took his schooling and upon finishing he moved to Regina, where he worked at a few different careers until he started to travel for Fairview Chemicals, which took him across Western Canada. It was while Bob was travelling that he joined The Associated Canadian Travellers and here he met and made several good friends, whom he was in contact with until the very end. Once you were considered a friend of Bob’s, you were always a friend.
  In 1967 an opportunity arose for Bob to go into business with his brother Vince in the Husky Car/Truck Stop in Regina which he operated until 1986. During this time he ran other businesses, one of which was Wayne Shaw and Associates. He purchased a farm in Vibank, Sask. during this time as well, which is where he loved to be, working the land, watching the crops grow and his favourite time of year was the harvest. In 1988 Bob, Betty Lynn and Curtis moved to Davidson to operate the Halfway Husky Travel Centre and make their home. It was here that Bob worked until he retired in September, 2007.
  Bob enjoyed to the fullest his family, his grandchildren and being with friends. In later years his spare time was enjoyed by reading, gardening and travelling.
  Bob was predeceased by his parents, Jim and Sarah Crowley; two brothers, Vince and Bill; one sister-in-law, Roxie; as well as one great-grandson Damon Crowley and two brothers-in-law, Dan Riopka and Eric Conrod and parents-in-law, Ted (Vivian) Radke.
  Bob is survived by his soulmate and wife, Betty Lynn; one daughter, Wendy (Jamie Steinbach); three sons, Curtis (Karen), Kelly (Cindy) and Barry. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Jason (Tina), Angela (Rod Rudnisky), Jennifer, Chris (Sharla), Cole, Sarah (Colin), Chad and Kaitlyn and five great-grandchildren, Abagail, Emily, Isabelle, Kayde and Kylah. Bob is survived by his sisters, Marlene Riopka, Pat (Ralph Wensley) and LaVerne Conrod; two brothers, Cliff Crowley and Don Crowley; sister-in-law Mary Crowley; brothers-in-law Ken (June) Radke and Garry (Heather) Radke as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
  A Celebration of Bob’s Life was held on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Davidson. The service was presided over by Rev. Father Joseph Gyim-Austin. The choir was in attendance, accompanied by organist Mary Jane Morrison. The Tribute to Bob’s life was given by long-time friend Wayne Shaw. Wendy, Curtis and Barry did a reflection of their Dad at the luncheon and Jason, Bob’s oldest grandchild also spoke about his Grandpa. Lunch was provided and served by the C.W.L.
