McDonald, Laura “Betty”

1926 – 2021

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Laura “Betty” McDonald of Davidson Sask.

Betty was born on Sept. 5, 1926 in Davidson. She married Howard Cowie of Regina on Dec. 27, 1948.

They lived with Howard’s parents until the spring of 1949, at which time they moved to a rented farm in the Grand Coulee area. In 1954 Betty and Howard purchased a farm west of Balgonie.

In the early 1960’s Betty was kept busy milking 8 cows. Betty also raised many farm cats. Betty and Howard farmed near Balgonie until Betty inherited the family farm at Bladworth. For a time they travelled between the two farms until they sold the Balgonie farm. In 1993 Betty and Howard purchased a house in Davidson.

Betty was living at the Davidson & District Health Care Centre at the time of her death.

Betty was predeceased by her husband Howard; parents Abel and Mary; and brother George. Betty is survived by her loving family, Nieces: Sharon (Earl) Zerr, Hellen Wanhella, Thelma (Fred) Duriaux and Carol (Tony) Wharrie, Nephews: Lyle (Joan) Morris and Murray (Velda) Morris.

For friends so wishing, memorial donations in memory of Betty may be directed to the Regina Humane Society (for the care of cats).

Thank-you to the staff of the Davidson & District Health Care Centre.

A family service for Betty will be held at a later date. Hanson’s Funeral Home of Davidson in care of arrangements.
