Bill Olaf Wick

Bill passed away peacefully at his home in the arms of his loving wife Carol at Strongfield, Saskatchewan on February 9, 2015.
Bill was born on March 11, 1941 in Saskatoon City Hospital, Saskatoon, Sask.
He leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife of 52 years Carol (Hutchinson); his daughter Susan (Ward) Macza, their children William, Lucas and Grace of High River, Alta.; Steven (Lora-Lee McKay) Wick and his children, Brandy and Arlee of Strongfield, SK; Bob Wick and his sons Kegan and Ransom of Hanley, Sask.; one great-granddaughter Paysley of Strongfield; as well as sisters, Geraldine Torguson and Lorraine (Gerry) Cooper; brothers-in-law Gerry (Heather) Hutchinson and Gary (Myrna Boorman) Hutchinson; sisters-in-law Vicky (Mervin) Lee and Betty Hutchinson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, Olaf and Elizabeth Wick; his father- and mother-in-law John and Elva Hutchinson; as well as his brother-in-law Clarence Torguson.
Bill trained as a mechanic and spent time on earth moving equipment during the construction of Gardiner Dam. He and Carol resided on the farm at Strongfield until 1989 when they moved to the town of Strongfield. While residing on the farm Bill worked at Rabbit Lake for Cameco and Eldorado Mines. In later years he worked for Clean Harbors in northern Alberta and B.C. During this time he continued to work the farm with his son Steve.
Bill spent many years riding security at the Craven Country Jamboree on his trusty mule, Molly. Another passion of Bill’s was attending auction sales, purchasing treasures and converting them into usable gems.
A celebration of Bill’s life was held on Friday, February 13, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Strongfield Community Hall.
Donations may be made to the Strongfield Community Hall or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Margaret Elva Wright

Margaret Elva Wright passed away peacefully in the presence of family at Bethany Care Centre in Calgary on December 31, 2014 at the age of 88 years.
Margaret is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 63 years, Al and their children Lloyd (Betty), Ann (Bill) and Linda (Paul). She was predeceased by her beautiful daughter Laura in 2004 and her parents Charles and Christine Kennedy and her brother Ted Kennedy. She was the proud grandmother of five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, who will all miss her dearly. Margaret will be forever loved by her sisters Mary and Jane, sister-in-law Celia, and many other wonderful relatives and close friends.
Margaret adored her family and friends who contributed to her living a full and happy life. Margaret was born in Craik, SK and attended nursing school in Regina where she graduated as a registered nurse in 1948. She married Al in June 1951 and they lived happily on a farm in Aylesbury, SK where they raised their four children. She continued to nurse for 27 years, becoming the Matron and then C.E.O. of Craik Community Hospital. “You are an amazing person Mom; such an inspiration to all who met you. We are so lucky to have had you in our lives and you will be truly missed.”
Relatives and friends were invited to a Celebration of Margaret’s Life held in the Chapel at Aspen Community, 1171 Bow Valley Lane NE, Calgary on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at 3:30 p.m.

Shymkiw

webobit-Shymkiw,-AlmaThe passing of Alma Shymkiw (Bileski) age 81, occurred suddenly on Dec. 18, 2014. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Patricia (Floyd and grandchildren Nathan and Meagan) and son David (Roxane and grandchildren Zoë and Kayla), plus three sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Frank in 2012 and by five brothers. Alma was born on April 19, 1933 to Mary and John Bileski. She was raised on a farm in Makoraff, Manitoba. After completing her high school education in Roblin, she taught at Swan River for a year. At the age of eight she had decided to become a nurse. She was accepted at St. Boniface School of Nursing in Manitoba. After graduating in 1958, she worked at St. Boniface for a year and then moved to Lamont, Alberta where she became a ward supervisor. Alma loved her career as a nurse. On June 15, 1961, she married Frank Shymkiw at Redwater, Alberta, where they settled for a 10-year period and started their family. Alma quit nursing to become a full-time mom. They were eventually transferred to Loreburn, Sask., where Frank continued to work for IPL (now Enbridge). Ten years later, they were once again relocated through Frank’s work to Kerrobert, Sask., where Alma was currently residing. While in Kerrobert, Alma re-entered the work force as a nurses’ aide at the local hospital. She was thrilled to be back working in healthcare. Another passion of hers was gardening and she received many compliments and awards for her yard. Reading was also a favourite pastime. Her four grandchildren held a special place in her heart and she was always there to babysit, sew special items for them, and to share the joy of gardening and books. She will be dearly missed by all.

Reich, Colin

Colin passed away suddenly on Monday, December 1, 2014 at the Davidson Health Centre. Colin was born in Davidson on June 27, 1961 to Norbert and Elaine Reich. He attended school in Girvin and Davidson, graduating from Davidson High School in 1979. Colin was actively involved in sports from a young age and enjoyed curling until his illness in 2006. Colin farmed the family farm from 1979-1998 and also worked off the farm in off-seasons at SEARS, Edwards Electric, Johnsson Electric and True Value Hardware. Colin rented out his farmland in 1998 and began working full-time as Caretaker at Davidson Elementary School until his illness in 2006. Colin had kept active during his illness taking care of his home and yard, both in town and at his farm. He took great pride in his work and his hard work shone through in all he did. Colin’s pride and joy were his wife, Brenda and his two daughters, Katelyn and Allie. He took every opportunity to spend time and travel with them. They were his main loves in life as he was ours. Colin is survived by his loving family, his wife, Brenda; his daughters Katelyn (Jordan) and Allie; his parents, Norbert and Elaine Reich; his siblings: Norlaine (Jim) McIvor, Gail (Dale Glines, Bev (Brian) Ziefflie, Kevin (Lorraine) Reich, Karen (Lindsay) Dieno; grandmother, Molly Reich; brothers-in-law, Rob (Norene) Edwards, Doug Edwards; sister-in-law, Gail (Lawrence) Prill; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Colin was predeceased by his grandfather, Valentine Reich; grandparents, Ralph Lund, Frances Lund and Edna Lund; his father and mother-in-law, Doug and Eunice Edwards; his sister-in-law, Colleen Reich. Zdunich, Louis

Zdunich,-LouisobitLouis M. Zdunich of Kenaston entered into eternal life with his lord on December 14, 2014. Louis passed peacefully at the Davidson Health Centre after a long battle with cancer.
Louis was born in Regina on January 22, 1944 to Anton and Marie Zdunich.
Louis is survived by his wife Dorothy; daughter Debra (Lyle) Froehlich and their children Sam, Liam and Molly; son Ken and his children Dalton, Kara-lee and Weylan; daughter Michelle (Dean) Blenkinsop and their children Riley, Ayslee, Thea and Maia; and son Jason (Crystal) and their children Jessica, Shannyn, Matthew and Justin. He is also survived by his mother Marie Zdunich; and siblings Gerald (Gina), Teresa (Bill Allen), David (Jo), Lorelei (Dwayne Theaker), Gene (Eileen),
Mark (Kathy); mother-in-law Aileen Sanderson, brother-in-law Jim (Shirley) Sanderson, and numerous neices and nephews, great-neices and -nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his father Anton; his sister Laverne Ringdal and her daughter Elly; brother-in-law Dan Lorer and father-in-law Jim Sanderson.
Louis lived his life in Kenaston where he did what he loved, farming and raising his family. He was raised in the St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church where he was an active member and a member of the Knights of Columbus, until his illness made it too hard for him.
His funeral was held at St. Andrew’s RC church in Kenaston on Friday, December 19, 2014 at 2 p.m. Prayers were on Thursday, December 18 at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Louis memory to St. Andrew’s Church Improvement or the Davidson Health Centre Trust Fund, with cheques payable to the Town of Davidson.

Olson

obit-OlsonIt is with sadness that we announce the death of Martin Joe Olson of Davidson, Saskatchewan. Martin passed with his wife Irene at his side, on December 4, 2014 after a short battle with cancer at the age of 77. Martin was born in Hazel Dell, Saskatchewan on February 3, 1937, to Elvin and Elvina (nee Reinson) Olson. He married Irene (nee Ganton), on October 18, 1958, in Melfort Saskatchewan, and they started their family there. They moved to Davidson in 1962 and lived there until his passing.
Martin is survived by his wife of 55 years Irene, children Cam (Hayatt) Olson, Evan (Roxane Schury) Olson and Melody (Bryan Dimen) Olson and grandchildren Rhela (Terry) Bowers, Tristan (Jeannine) Manz, Kacie (Tyson Loshka) Manz, Holly (Jordan Sexton) Olson, Hillary (Ted) McCrann and Liam Olson. Martin was also blessed with two great-grandchildren Chase and Sadie Bowers. Martin is also survived by his sisters Viola (Norman, deceased) Hearn, Elaine (Jim) Tomkins and Judy (Peter) Sawchuk and sister-in-law Muriel.
Martin is preceded in death by his parents Elvin and Elvina Olson, his in-laws Kathleen and Clifford Ganton, his brothers Allan Olson, Norman (Ann) Olson and his sister and brother-in-law Loretta and Sid Wiwchar.
Martin’s first job was working telephone construction with his brother in Alberta. He soon made a lifetime career with Saskatchewan Power for 35 years, first in construction and later as Assistant District Operator and retired as District Operator.
Martin was an avid golfer and was active with the Davidson golf course both on the Executive and for a term as President. He was a committed community member and involved as a Kinsmen, Boy Scout Leader, with the Junior Athletic Association, the K-40 and with the skating rink and curling club. He was an excellent carpenter and many friends and family have benefited from the projects he and Irene worked on together.
Martin’s family was his first priority; he loved his kids, had a very special relationship with his grandchildren and was involved in their sports and activities. In the early years the family enjoyed numerous summer camping trips to B.C. together – in a tent camper he made himself, pulled by the Buick Wildcat! A celebration of Martin’s life was held at the Davidson Catholic Church on Thursday, December 11, 2014, officiated by Lutheran Pastor Sonje Finnestad.
The family would like to say a special thank-you to Dr. Lang and the staff at the Davidson Health Centre for their compassionate care and support.
