McJannet, Gladys

The death of Gladys Marion McJannet, born at her Hanley farm on February 18, 1922, occurred in Swift Current Regional Hospital on the morning of Monday, December 20, 2010. The funeral service was held on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from Hanley Lutheran Church conducted by Pastor Harley Johnson.
Surviving are her three sons, Les (Barbara) Bohrson of Swift Current, Gordon (Dyanne) Bohrson of Calgary, Martin (Donna) Bohrson of Hanley; her daughter Pastor Kristin (Douglas) Soveran of Swift Current; her brother, Lewis (Hilda) Duddridge of Victoria; her stepchildren, John (Fay) McJannet, Diane (Gordon) Taylor, Donna (John) Spilchak and Robert (June) McJannet, all of Davidson. Also surviving are twenty-two grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, plus numerous nieces, nephews and family members. Gladys was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Ethel Duddridge, her brother, Leonard (Lillian) Duddridge, and her beloved husbands, Tom Bohrson and John McJannet.
Gladys was a life-long learner and teacher. She completed high school at Hanley and graduated in 1941 from Saskatoon Normal School. Gladys provided great leadership in community 4H, sports, cultural and history programs. Her first love was farming, a passion shared with her parents and husbands and their families. From 1983 through 1992, she welcomed the world, ten young farmers for eight-month immersions in Canada, sponsored by the International Agricultural Exchange Association. Since 2007 strokes and vascular dementia forced her to seek care, most recently as a resident of the Cypress Health Region’s Prairie Pioneers Lodge in Swift Current. Interment will take place in the family plot at Hanley Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are in care of Hanson’s Funeral Home of Davidson. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hanley Lutheran Church, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Roberts, Laura

Laura Roberts, formerly of Kenaston, Sask., passed away at the Davidson Health Centre on Jan. 8, 2011, seven days before her 100th birthday. She was born on Jan. 15, 1911 to Albert and Laura Mills at Spanish River, Ont. She moved with her family to the Kenaston district in 1918.
Laura was predeceased by her husband Jack Roberts in 1964; parents Albert and Laura Mills, brother Hilmer (Bud) Mills and sister Marion Mills.
She is survived by her son Wayne (Marlene) Roberts; four grandchildren Cheryl (Murray) McLellan, Susan (Garry) Haduik, Rod Roberts and Patti (Dale) Firby; eleven great-grandchildren Blair, Derek and Braiden McLellan; David, Kyle (Lindley) and Lynsae Haduik; Jordon and Kaitlynne Roberts; Dayna, Sarah and Cassie Firby; also sister-in-law Mabel Mills; niece Shirley (Dave) Peter and their family at Dartmouth, N.S. The funeral service was held on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 2 p.m. from Kenaston Place, Kenaston, Sask. with Rev. Blair Dixon (Anglican) officiating.
Pianist was Darla Collins, scripture readers were Cheryl McLellan, Susan Haduik and Patti Firby. The tribute was given by Murray McLellan. A special selection, “Amazing Grace” was played by Derek and Braiden McLellan, Laura’s great-grandsons. Other favorite hymns were “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”, “Christ Arose” and “Precious Lord Take My Hand”. Ushers were Garry Haduik and
Dale Firby. Attending the register were Muriel Wilson and Lynda Pillipow. Honorary pallbearers were all friends who shared in Laura’s life journey. Active pallbearer was Rod Roberts. Interment will take place at a later date in the family plot, Kenaston Community Cemetery, Kenaston, Sask. Hanson’s Funeral Home, Davidson, Sask. were in charge of arrangements.
