Schilling, Sandra Joan nee Lucki

Sandra was born on February 6, 1951 in Outlook Saskatchewan and passed away on November 25, 2018. Sandra is survived by her husband of 47 years, her two children Alison (Tom) Douglas and Clayton (Trish) Schilling and her six grandchildren Austin, Riley, Quinn, Lucas, Jacob and Ethan. Brothers Dennis (Pat) Lucki, Gerry (Rhonda) Lucki, Sisters Betty (Murray) Lloyd and Alice (Lynden) Zimmer. As well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her parents Margaret and Clifford Lucki, sister Sheila and brother Donald, granddaughter Sidney Rae and parents in-law Jacob and Leah Schilling.

Sandra moved to Davidson in 1968. She met Milton Schilling and they married on October 8, 1971. Over the next 47 years they built a life together. She began her career life at the Davidson Hotel as a waitress. After an education upgrade she worked as a home care aide, later moving into the laundry position for the Davidson Hospital, Prairie View Lodge and the Davidson Health Centre. She was fortunate enough to take several years at home to be with her children, later returning back to work until she succumbed to health issues, leaving on disability. She battled COPD for 30 years. She beat lung cancer in 2011 and was diagnosed with congestive heart disease in 2017.

She passed away peacefully with family at the Davidson Hospital.

A Celebration of Sandra’s Life Funeral Service was held Thursday, Nov. 29 at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Davidson. Sandra was laid to rest in the family plot at Davidson Community Cemetery. For those so wishing, memorial donations in memory of Sandra may be directed to the Lung Association or a charity of choice.

DEMEESTER, Odiel Camiel

March 21, 1929 – November 22, 2018

Odiel Camiel Demeester passed away November 22, 2018 at Oliver Lodge at the age of 89 years. Odiel was born on the family farm nine miles west of Imperial. He attended school at Rolling Ridge country school until Grade 8. He successfully worked on the farm until 1976. He moved to Poor Boot Acres north of Martensville working as a crop adjuster for Saskatchewan crop insurance. In 2007 Odiel retired to Saskatoon. In Odiel’s life there was never enough daylight as there was always something that needed to get done. The family farm was always open to anybody that wanted to stop by and visit anytime of the day or night; it was the gathering point for young and old alike. He enjoyed raising his dogs, refurbishing furniture, collecting antiques and going to auctions. Odiel was very passionate about any projects he started and proud of his accomplishments. Stories, wit and humor will be memories everyone will cherish. Family was his most precious possession. He was the loving father of Shannon and Janie Demeester of Telfordville, AB; Laurel Janzen and Harry Janzen of Waldheim, SK; Roxi Demeester of Saskatoon, SK; and Alann Demeester of New Westminster, B.C. He will also be dearly missed by his 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Odiel will also be lovingly remembered by Yvonne, Shay, Troy, Cole, Hazel, Corri, Lance, Caleb, Liam, Marshall and Jackson, Dylan, Devon and Kristin, Dustin and Hoy, Emmile and Jorden, Michael, David, Katie, Alexis, Josie, Riley, Hudson, Leo. He was predeceased by his parents, Emily and Camiel; sisters, Mary, Yvonne, Agustia, Lea and Clara; twin brothers, Peter and Paul. A special thanks to Dalmeny Care and Oliver Lodge for providing compassionate care for Odiel. A private service was held. Viterra to buy GDT

STRONGFIELD—Shareholders will decide next month whether to approve the sale of Gardiner Dam Terminal (GDT) Ltd. to Viterra.

The purchase price is estimated at between $27.9 and $30.3 million.

GDT’s board of directors announced Friday, Nov. 16 that the company has entered into an asset purchase agreement with Viterra, which already holds a 50 per cent interest in GDT as per a joint venture agreement entered into 18 years ago when the farmer-owned terminal was built. The sale of the remaining 50 per cent of the assets will terminate this joint venture agreement.

The purchase agreement includes all the assets associated with the grain handling aspect of the business and the crop inputs and production side of the business known as GDT AgServices Ltd.

GDT operates a grain terminal near Strongfield, along the CP Rail line and has crop production facilities at Strongfield, Broderick and Tullis.

The terminal’s service area covers a 60-mile radius around Strongfield, including the communities of Craik, Davidson, Kenaston, Eyebrow, Central Butte, Dinsmore, Beechy, Hanley, Outlook, Elbow and Loreburn.

Viterra has advised GDT that it intends to sell GDT AgServices and all its crop production assets to Riverbend Co-operative Ltd. under a separate agreement.

GDT and GDT AgServices currently employ 24 people.

Twenty-two out of the 24 people will be offered positions by either Viterra, in the grain handling facility, or Riverbend Co-op at the three crop input locations, said Shawn Graham, chief executive officer, GDT AgServices. He said the two exceptions are management positions.

Obituary

SCHWIERTZ, Rose

1940-2018

Rose Shwiertz passed away peacefully on Nov. 18, 2018 at the Extend a Care in Moose Jaw SK., at the age of 78. Her parents were Emilien and Phylis Tichit. Rose is predeceased by husbands Cyril Van De Wiele, Steve Hnatiuk & Tony Schwiertz. She leaves behind two sons Sydney Van De Wiele (wife Laurie) and George Van De Wiele (wife Joanie); two daughters Valerie Childs (late husband Karl) and Jean Cooke (husband Paul); nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, two brother’s and three sisters. Ugene, Edith, Yvonne, Teresa and Steven. As well as numerous nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place in Saskatoon, SK. A service will be held for family and friends at a later date. RIPPLINGER: REV. FR. STEPHEN

Mar 10, 1924 – Nov 8, 2018

With sadness, we announce the death of Fr. Stephen Ripplinger on Nov. 8, 2018. Fr. Steve was born on March 10, 1924 to Stephan & Catherine Ripplinger on a farm 1 mile south of Kendal, SK. Fr. Steve is survived by his siblings: Bernie Ripplinger (Angie), Edwin Ripplinger (Donna) &Bernadette Agi; brother-in-law Walter Rog, sister-in-law Clementine Ripplinger as well as many nieces nephews and friends. As well, Father Steve leaves to mourn Joan – the other half of the “team” – who worked with Father in Moose Jaw at Church of our Lady and Sacred Heart Parish in Davidson. For 45 years Joan wore many hats: parish worker, secretary, liturgist, confidante, companion and caregiver. Father Steve spent three years in the army in the Ordinance Corps in Montreal, working in the dock yards loading ships carrying war supplies to USSR ports.

After the war, Fr. Steve entered St. Joseph Seminary in Edmonton for three years and then four years in Regina Cleri Seminary. Fr. Steve was ordained in 1953 as one member of the largest ordination class ever in the Archdiocese of Regina. After various early postings, he became pastor of Ceylon and the missions of Tribune and Trossachs, where he was for 15 years. Following this, Fr. Steve was co-pastor at Little Flower Parish in Regina. In 1971 -72, Father obtained his Master’s degree in “Pastoral Counselling” from St. Paul’s University in Ottawa and he was often sought out by individuals and families for help. On Aug. 1, 1972, Fr. Steve was appointed Pastor of Church of our Lady in Moose Jaw, where he served for 16 years. In July 1988, Father was transferred to Davidson parish for eight years. Throughout his 60 years of pastoring, Fr. Steve was always involved in the community in which he lived; he promoted and supported the C.W.L. in his parishes, was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus and the Legion. Fr. Steve was an enthusiastic sportsman and outdoors man – belonging to wildlife groups and receiving numerous trophies for fishing, hunting, bowling and curling and became quite a good taxidermist and painter. Fr. Steve retired as a parish priest in 1996 and moved out to his cabin at Diefenbaker Lake. He then served the mission of Davidson at Elbow until he was 90 years old. Throughout his years of priesting, Fr. Steve was a “people” person. He treated everyone equally, no matter their status, making all feel welcome and important. Because of this, people have loved him and remembered him. Prayers were held on Wednesday Nov. 14, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. and the Mass Of Christian Burial on Nov. 15, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Holy Rosary Cathedral, Regina, SK. Interment was held in the Kendal Community Cemetery, Kendal, SK. For those wishing donations may be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation.
