Darlene goethals (1965-2024)

May, 1965 – July, 2024

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Darlene Beatrice Goethals at her home on July 30, 2024, at the age of 59 years, Darlene was born in Imperial, SK., on May 5, 1965. Darlene grew up on a farm and had a special love for her farm pets. She loved bugging her two older brothers…they not so much. Darlene moved to Moose Jaw once school was completed. She worked many jobs in Moose Jaw and grew to know many people. She loved to travel and took many bus tours to the Unite States and came back always having made friends along the way. Darlene spent her last years in High Park Towers and “coffee row”. Darlene had a special fondness for her great nephews, Owen and Brennan whom she loved very much.

Darlene leaves to mourn her sister-in-law, Deb Fincaryk; nephews, Theo Goethals and Jorde Goethals (Jodi, Owen and Brennan) and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Irene Goethals; brother, George (1988) and brother, Kenny (1980).

She will be missed by us all and we loved her very much. As per Darlene’s wishes, she will be interred in Imperial Cemetery at a private family ceremony. Cornelius Penner (1934-2024)

February, 1934 – July, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Cornelius “Cornie” Edward Penner, announce his passing on the morning of Friday, July 12th, 2024.

Cornie was born February 9th, 1934, to Abraham and Elizabeth (née: Dueck) Penner on Sec. 7, TWP 20, Range 7 West of the 3rd, Saskatchewan.  He was the third child in a family of nine.

He was predeceased by his father, Abe Penner; mother, Lizzie Penner; his aunts and uncles; sisters: Olga Comeau, Tillie Finch, Diane Cunningham, and Lorraine Schinold; brothers: Ernie Penner, Henry Penner, and Johnny Penner; son, Glen Penner; and granddaughter, Breena Penner.  Cornie is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Dorothy Penner; daughters, Beverley Kwakernaak (Harry) and Rhonda Penner-Futros (Ed); daughter-in-law, Debbie Ducharme (Greg); as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

As a young man Cornie worked for various farmers, the pipeline, on the construction of the Gardiner Dam, and he also had his own mixed farming operation in the Elbow, SK area.  He retired from farming in 1976 and moved to Central Butte, SK where he was employed by the Co-op, did some yard maintenance, and he completed his working career as an operator on the Riverhurst Ferry.

Cornie enjoyed playing guitar with various bands in his spare time.  This was probably one of his greatest joys besides casting a fishing line and reeling in a “big one”. 

In 2014 Cornie and his wife Dorothy relocated to Moose Jaw, SK and have been blessed with a very close-knit community in Crestview Manor.  He always said this is the best place to live.

Cornie had a great sense of humour and always loved a good joke.  He never left a visit without first telling you a little story.  He was an honest man, kind, caring and always enjoyed offering a helping hand to anyone in need.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Palliative Care Team and the nursing staff at the Dr. F H Wigmore Regional Hospital for their exceptional end-of-life care for Cornie.

Margaret Louise Bort(nee Thomas)

It is with great sadness that the family of Margie Bort announce her passing at the age of 71 on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon. Margie is survived by her two children, Stephanie Inglehart and Colton (Erin) Inglehart, her beloved grandsons Carter and Braden Inglehart, her sister Barbara Weinberger, her sister-in-law Melanie Thomas, her brother-in-law Martin (Donna) Bort, her step-daughters Trina Kavanagh and Trista Bort, and her step-grandchildren, Nolan, Joseph, Sylvie and Aoife Kavanagh, as well as her extended family and many honorary children and grandchildren. Margie was born on February 16th, 1953, to Wendell and Katherine (Eckel) Thomas, in Davidson, SK, where she grew up and attended school. She was in a car accident in 1970 which left her quadriplegic but that didn’t slow her down. With a great deal of determination she learned to care for herself and attended Saskatchewan Technical Institute in Moose Jaw, the University of Saskatchewan and many correspondence courses in business management and librarian courses. She married Alfred Inglehart in 1978 and was blessed with her two children. In 1996 she married her second husband Ronald Bort and joined their families together.  Through the years she had many jobs and her last career was with the Saskatchewan Association of Community Living (SACL). Once she was unable to maintain full time work, Margie spent much of her time volunteering. She won an award with the Council of Canadian Disabilities for her work with the Saskatchewan Voice of People with Disabilities and received the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal in 2005 from the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan. Margie also volunteered with North Saskatchewan Independent Living Centre, the Canadian Paraplegic Association, Sea Cadets, Navy League Cadets, 107 Spitfire Squadron Air Cadets and the Saskatoon Seniors for Continued Learning where she took many classes through the university. Margie and Ron jointly volunteered as Airport Ambassadors for 12 years at the Saskatoon Airport and for their beloved Bridge City Rider Fan Club.  Margie loved her grandchildren and was very involved with them. She and Ron loved to travel in their outfitted van, driving to many places to visit family and friends and, of course, to cheer on their Riders in Regina. She loved to read and frequented non-profit book fundraisers to add to her To-Be-Read pile. Margie loved her plants, flowers and beautifying her yard every summer.  Margie was predeceased by her husband Ron, her parents Wendell and Katherine, her step-father Albert and step-mother Beatrice, her children’s father Alfred, her brother Bill, her brother-in-law Sonny, grandson Nathan, great-nephew Christopher, her parents-in-law Henry and Drusilla, and many aunts and uncles.  The family would like to thank St. Paul’s Hospital ICU staff for their care during this last visit and the many visits before. A Celebration of Margie and Ron’s lives was held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 26th, 2024, at Windsor Chapel (704 Windsor Street, Saskatoon), interment followed at Woodlawn Cemetery, Saskatoon. JUDITH REED (1946-2026)

Feb. 6, 1946 – May 23, 2026

Judith Muriel Reed passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the age of 80, with her family by her side at Royal University Hospital. 

She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas Joel and Kathleen Child, and her brother, Glen Joel. She is survived by her loving husband, Ross Reed; her son, Matthew Reed (Ashley); her daughter, Ann Ward (Jason); and her grandson, Jordan Ward (Kierstyn). And her siblings Una Lewis, Larry Joel, Erik Joel and Nancy Joel. 

Judy was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and grew up on the Joel family farm near Elbow, Saskatchewan. Judy was made to be a wife and mother — it came naturally to her. As a child, she was often found inside playing with her dolls and helping with housework. 

She married Ross Reed in Loreburn on October 31, 1964. Together, they raised their family and ran the farm until eventually selling it in 2001. In retirement, they enjoyed travelling and spending time at their home in Arizona.

Her children and grandson were the light of her life, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. 

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Skudesnes Lutheran Church. Friends and family are invited to gather afterward at the Loreburn Town and Country Centre for a time of fellowship and refreshments.

A private family interment will take place at a later date.

MERLE MANION (1939-2026)

Nov. 27, 1939 – May 19, 2026

It is with profound sadness and much love that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Merle Manion at the age of 86. Mom passed peacefully on May 19, 2026, at Stensrud Lodge in Saskatoon.

Mom was born on Nov. 27, 1939, in Bruno, Sask. to Jack and Madeline Kolinsky and attended school at the Ursuline Convent in Bruno. She then went on to attend Marvel in Saskatoon and upon completion moved to Davidson with her mother and sister. This is where she met the love of her life and best friend Lorne. They married on Oct. 10, 1959, and made Davidson their home. After completing her family, she went on to work at Bone Pharmacy for over 25 years. She was a past President of the Davidson Kinette Club and the Davidson Figure Skating Club.

Mom’s greatest joy was taking care of, and spending time with, her family. Her warmth left anindelible mark on everyone she met. She approached life with a generous heart and calm patience (which was often tested) and always knew exactly how to make you smile. Mom was the cornerstone of our family, our greatest confidante and our guiding light.

Mom will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her husband, Lorne, her children Donnie and Shayne (Diana), her grandchildren Montana (Jhonny) and Shay, her great-grandchildren Luka and Jordan and her sister Myra. She was also a loving aunt to her nephews Don (Pat) Old, Bob (Krista) Old, Scott Old and her niece Connie (Mac) Allan and their families as well as numerous friends and other family members.

Mom was predeceased by her parents John and Madeline (Stahl) Kolinsky, father and mother-in-law Harold and Hilda (Willner) Manion, brother and sister-in-law Howard and Lois (Manion) Old and her nephew Troy.

A Celebration of Merle’s life graveside service will be held at the family plot in Davidson Community Cemetery, Davidson, Sask. on Friday, June 5 at 1:00 p.m. Lunch will follow at Sacred Heart Parish Hall in Davidson.

We would like to express our gratitude to the staff at Stensrud Lodge. Todd, thank-you so much for your support and kindness during this difficult time.

DARIS CODY RINK (1985-2026)

In Loving Memory of Daris Cody Rink January 13, 1985–May 8, 2026

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Daris Cody Rink, who passed away on May 8, 2026, at the age of 41, after a courageous battle with lung cancer following his diagnosis in May, 2024.

Daris was born on January 13, 1985, and was raised on the family farm east of Kenaston,where he developed the strong work ethic, resourcefulness and love of the outdoors that would define his life. 

Daris was the beloved son of Joan and Daryl Rink and a cherished brother to Justin, Kristen (Blaine) and Colton (Stephanie). He was also a proud uncle to numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart. 

He was a devoted partner to Becca and a proud bonus dad to Acey, whom he loved deeply.

For 19 years, Daris worked at the Nutrien Allan Potash Mine, where he built lasting friendships and earned the respect of his coworkers through his dedication, skill and willingness to lend a hand.

Daris had a true passion for life and the outdoors. He loved fishing, riding his motorcycle,camping and spending time in nature. He was an avid outdoorsman with an incredible ability to fix, build or create, just about anything. Whether tending to his garden, working on a project or spending time with his beloved dogs, Daris found joy in the simple and meaningful moments in life.

He will be remembered for his strong hands, generous heart, quiet strength, his unforgettable belly laugh, his love of playing jokes and the stories he could tell that brought laughter to everyone around him.

Though cancer took him far too soon, Daris faced his journey with courage and determination, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, love and resilience.

Daris spent the final three weeks of his life at Glengarda Hospice, where he and his family were surrounded by extraordinary care. The kindness, compassion and grace shown by the nurses, doctors and staff brought comfort and peace during an incredibly difficult time and their care will never be forgotten.

Daris will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

A Celebration of Life for Daris will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Kenaston Place Community Hall, Kenaston, Sask.

LESTER CHARLES ORSEN (1938-2026)

LESTER CHARLES ORSEN JUNE 18, 1938 – MAY 5, 2026 

Lester Charles Orsen, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Home in Saskatoon on May 5, 2026. Lester was predeceased by his wife, Agnes; parents, Alice and Marvin Orsen; sister, Myrtle; sister, Sylvia; brothers-in-law, Dick Matthews, Ken Galletly, and Bob McKee. Leaving to mourn are his sons, Kelvin (Cathy) and Gary; grandchildren, Brittany (Corey) Traynor, Colby; Matthew Orsen (Melissa, Levi); Tawny Orsen (Matt) Turcotte, Kilian, Freyja; Courtney (Joel) Peters, Ryan Orsen. Sisters, Sandra McKee, Charlotte (Roger) Kohut, Marjorie (Ken) Sinden, and many nieces and nephews. 

Lester was born on a farm near Hanley, SK, to Alice and Marvin Orsen. Lester completed high school in Hanley and then an electronics course by correspondence. He worked on crews building grain annexes. Farming was calling to Lester, so he then started to grain farm and raise cattle with his dad. Lester and Agnes were married in 1964, where they resided on the farm east of Hanley and raised their family. Lester loved checking the cows and driving around the pastures. He also loved dancing and music, playing with the Sunny Valley Band. Lester and Agnes were very well known for their wonderful dancing all over the province. Dancing was their joint passion, as well as visiting family and friends to play cards.

MARLENE ANN FRIESEN (1940-2026)

It is with sadness and heavy hearts the family of Marlene Friesen announce her sudden passing, April 23,2026, at the age of 85 God called her home to start a new journey as an Angel.

Mom was born Aug 5, 1940, she was the second daughter of Lyle and Evelyn Lonsberry of theWiseton/Dinsmore Area. Mom grew up on the family farm with her older sister Connie and younger siblings Mary Lou and Vernon. Our family of six moved to Davidson in 1970 where we were blessed with the addition of our brother. As a family our weekends were spent going to small town fairs-participating in chuckwagon & chariot races and gymkhana.

Mom worked at the hospital in Davidson as a Nurse’s Aide for many years. Later she moved toClaresholm, Alberta where she created many memories with family and new friends. Since returning toDavidson, she has enjoyed spending time with family and friends.Some of her pass times were watching the Toronto Blue Jays, watching curling, doing puzzles and reading. Last year was an exciting year for mom as the Blue Jays went to the World Series–and mom shared Canada’s disappointment when they lost game seven. If there was a game on you could not call her as she was too busy to take the talk. Christmas was a special time for our family as mom would setup her Christmas Village. The village holds a special place in our hearts as it was built from our mom’s love of Christmas and each of our contribution to make the dream come alive.

Mom is survived by her children Cindy (Doug), Jackie (Terry), Dianne (Garth), Carolyn (Scott) and Brent(Anne). By her Grandchildren Dwane (Crystal), Bradley (Larissa),Kyle, Kevin (Heather), Dean, Kayla(Darcy), Shane (Chalcey), and Brina (Jason). And by Great Grandchildren Dylan, Lexi, Kaden, Miller,Kohen, Elizabeth, Nyla, Mckiinley, Emmett, Atlee, Kennedy (Conner), and Brodie. Mom is also survived by her baby sister Mary Lou (Cecil), numerous nieces and nephews. Mom is predeceased by her parents Lyle and Evelyne, older sisterConnie and younger brother Vernon, Les Friesen and Reg Turner.

A family celebration will be held at a later date when we take mom to Alberta. 

DOROTHY ANN ZDUNICH (1947-2026)

Dorothy Ann Zdunich, 78 of Kenaston, Saskatchewan, past away on April 28, 2026, after fighting a hard battle against Cancer. Dorothy was born on December 23, 1947 to Aileen and James Sanderson in Saskatoon. Dorothy grew up in the Kenaston/Hanley area and attended both Kenaston and Hanley Schools. Dorothy married Louis Zdunich in 1966. They moved straight to their farm they had purchased. It is here where they raised their four children Debra, Kenneth, Michelle and Jason. Dorothy remained here until she went to the Davidson Health Centre. Dorothy was a great farm wife, she went to the field, cooked meals, looked after the yard and garden, and raised a family. She was always busy gardening, canning and running children to sports. She was involved in the Zid School Community Club, and CWL. After her children grew up and left she started catering, making quilts, buns and running her grandchildren to sports when needed.

Dorothy is predeceased by her husband Louis, parents James and Aileen Sanderson,parents-in-law Tony and Marie Zdunich, son-in-law Dean Blenkinsop. Dorothy is survived by her Children, 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy will be held on May 22, 2026at 11:00am at St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church in Kenaston, Saskatchewan.
