Obituary: Manz, John

John Manz

With heavy hearts we are so sad to announce the passing of John Manz on Sept. 21, 2017.

John fought and hung on as long as he could but it eventually overtook him. He passed away at the Davidson Health Centre with his family by his side.

John was born in Davidson on April 2, 1932. He attended Campbell School and after completing his schooling he started farming and working on the oil rigs. On March 4, 1955 he married Nola Wightman and together they bought the Manz family farm. It was a busy farm that was located near most of his brothers and sisters. His family always helped each other out whether it was butchering, moving machinery, fixing farm equipment . . . they seemed to be there for each other. In dad’s wallet he had a piece of paper with all his brothers’ and sisters’ names, birthdates and when they passed away.

John enjoyed all outdoor activities such as fishing, camping, playing ball, and especially the Manz Family Reunions. He always asked about all his nieces and nephews and took special interest in how they were doing. John was very social and enjoyed being on the go and helping his neighbours, friends and family. He liked to tease and joke around with everyone. He looked forward to having company and a good game of cards. Dad loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and always helped out anyway he could. His many acts of kindness and unconditional support will be hugely missed.

John would want all his family acknowledged: wife Nola Manz; daughters Glenda (Everett) Chester and Noreen (Wayne) Obrigewitsch; son Owen (Mel) Manz; grandchildren Stacy (Josh) Pohlman and Jana Chester and Leslie Chester, Mitchell (Stephanie) Obrigewitsch and Kendra (Chris) Kostyk and Caitlin Obrigewitsch, Justin Manz and Jascia Manz; great-grandchildren Weston and Rylie Pohlman, Ophelia and Bronson Obrigewitsch and Oliver Kostyk; sisters-in-law Joan Manz and Marj Wightman; and lots of nieces and nephews, too many to mention.

John was predeceased by parents John and Caroline Manz; parents-in-law Mary and Ken Wightman; brothers George, Conrad, Leonard, Jim, Jake, Martin, Walter and Eddie; sisters Alma Campbell and Erna Arend; brothers-in-law John Campbell and Joe Arend; and sisters-in-law Elsie, Emma, Joyce, Jackie, Madeline, Shirley and Helen.

A celebration of life will be held at Noreen and Wayne’s farm with immediate family. Memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Davidson Health Centre. The family placed their trust in Hanson’s Funeral Home, Davidson.

Obituary: Adolph, Thelma

Adolph, Thelma

Thelma Kathleen Adolph (née Sira) passed away peacefully August 31, 2017 in Central Haven Special Care Home in Saskatoon. Thelma was born on the Sira homestead on Jan. 25, 1931 to Norwegian parents Trygve and Ragna Sira. She attended both Bohrson and Hanley schools and the Robertson Secretarial School in Saskatoon. She worked at Marshall Wells and The Bay for many years.

She married Gordon Adolph on June 30, 1951. They had two children: Patti-lynn, born in 1958, and Daryl, born in 1965. They were lifetime members in the Riversdale Kiwanis, very active volunteering and raising money. Thelma received Kiwanian of the Year in 2011, the first woman to receive this award.

Gordon passed away in 1991. Later, Thelma married Julius (Chic) Csigi in 1996 and they spent 20 happy years together in Saskatoon, at the cabin at Shell Lake, Norway, etc. They also made many happy trips with Elmer and Marilyn Sira to Mexico, Florida, U.S.A., and here.

Thelma was predeceased by her parents and both husbands. Lovingly remembered by her daughter Patti-lynn, son Daryl (Kathleen), stepdaughters Diane (Larry) and Wendy (Gary), brother Elmer (Marilyn), grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Thelma was proud of her rural and Norwegian upbringing. She was a gentle person, loved visiting, cards and having a good time with all family and friends.

Obituary: Bezanson, Jerry

Jerry Bezanson

Regrettably Jerry took his life Sept. 2, 2017, with heavy hearts we announce his passing.

Born Feb. 23, 1959 in Middle Musquodoboit, N.S., at age 15 Jerry moved out west. Jerry and Cyndi settled in Davidson, Sask., and opened “Second Hand Rose Restoration,” rebuilding and restoring antique cars. Many beautiful cars that he restored were sold all over the world from Nova Scotia to New Zealand. He is survived by parents Stanley and Violet (Reid) Bezanson, Aylesford, N.S.; children: daughter Naomi Harraq and family, Quebec; sons Ricky Bezanson and family, New Brunswick, Trevor Cloutier and Ryan Cloutier, Alberta; his wife Cyndi, Alberta; and seven siblings. Predeceased by three brothers.

A Memorial Service will be held for Jerry at 10:30 a.m., Sept. 23rd, 2017, at First Baptist Church, Moose Jaw, Sask. For those so wishing, memorial donations in memory of Jerry may be directed to the Davidson Fire Department (checks payable to the Town of Davidson) or to the Canadian Mental Health Association. Interment will take place back home in Nova Scotia.

Obituary: Crawford, Margaret

CRAWFORD, Margaret Ella (nee Low)
April 4, 1928 — Sept. 6, 2017

It is with great sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Margaret Ella Crawford at Edmonton’s Grey Nuns Hospital. After 89 years of leaving her mark on this world, she died as she lived: on her own terms. Pages could be filled with wonderful memories but Mom always said, “Less is more.” So it’s only fitting we take one of her favourite quotes from the movie Forrest Gump: “And that’s all I have to say about that.”

She will be lovingly remembered by children Donna (Kenny) Taylor, Wendy (Bing) Vanthuyne, Colleen Crawford, Trev (Shauna) Crawford; grandchildren Keith (Sammie) Taylor, Stacey (Trevor) Risling, Graham (Lisa) Taylor, Tara Taylor (Brad Whitter), Kelly (Karen) Taylor, Derek (Susan) Vanthuyne, Kristen (Warren) Fry, Brent (Nicole) Vanthuyne, Amy (Kurt) East, Wes and Dale Lenkewich, Kurt Crawford, Hailey and Meg Crawford and 23 great-grandchildren; Leslie Taylor (brother-in-law), Arthur Morrison (brother-in-law), Marlene Low (sister-in-law), Harold Crawford (brother-in-law), Shirley Crawford (sister-in-law), Allan Crawford (brother-in-law), Roy (Marilyn) Crawford (brother/sister-in-law), and Glenn Crawford (brother-in-law); and too many nieces, nephews and significant people in her life to include.

Anne McGinnis (née Hrechka)
January 9th, 1949 — September 5th, 2017

Anne McGinnis passed away on Tuesday, September 5th, 2017 with her family by her side. Anne was born on January 9th, 1949 in Peesane, Sask. She was predeceased by her parents John and Stella; sister Mary Noren; brothers-in-law Jerry Noren and Leo Shull; sisters-in-law Mary Hrechka and Bev Hrechka; and father-in-law Earl McGinnis.

Anne leaves behind the love of her life, Bill McGinnis, whom she married on June 11th, 1966. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters: Wanda (Dean Sunley), Wendy (Steve Sanden), and Wanesa (Bill Dell); her grandchildren: Hailey, Jenna and Hope Sunley, Josh, Aiden and Hanna Sanden, and Paige and April Dell, who all meant everything to her; her sister Kathy Shull; brothers Mike (Darlene) and Bill Hrechka; as well as many nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed.

In keeping with Anne’s wishes, a private family service will be held at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. Obituary: Spencer, Hilton

Hilton Spencer

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of the pillar of our family, Hilton Spencer of Craik, Sask., on Aug. 17, 2017, at the age of 69. With his much-loved wife and children by his side, Hilton fought until the end with the same determination and strength that he had displayed his entire life.

Hilton was born in Craik, Sask., on Feb. 2, 1948. He is predeceased by his parents, George and Violet (Sloan). Proudly carrying on Hilton’s spirit and love for his family are his wife of 43 years, Wilma (Sianchuk) and their four children: George (Barbara) Spencer and their daughter Athena of Bluffton, Alta.; Peter (Brady) Spencer and their sons Mason and Grey of Edmonton, Alta.; John (Jennifer) Spencer and their children Ainsley and Flynn of Martensville, Sask.; Rae Lynn (Dan) Crooks and their daughter Madyn of Weyburn, Sask. He is also survived by his brothers Ernest (Nancy) Spencer and Dave (Arlette) Spencer as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Hilton loved all members of his family and was unable to hide his pride as he spoke of them. He cared deeply for his wife. Hilton and Wilma set a precious and rare example for their children to carry forward into their relationships. His grandchildren were one of his real joys and Hilton always brought a new and fun experience to each child whenever he spent time with them. Although his grandchildren are spread throughout various communities in Saskatchewan and Alberta, “Grandpa” is always one of their constant topics of conversation.

Hilton was very creative, resourceful and intelligent. He could usually be found manufacturing various structures from wood and metal. Hilton loved to golf and archery hunt with his closest friends and family. He was very community-minded, serving as president of the Craik Golf Course and as the Reeve of RM No. 222 for 27 years. He fought for many ideas that he believed would make his community prosper, including keeping rural health care intact and bringing new businesses and families to the area. His entrepreneurial spirit served him well as he supported his family and the community with equipment operation through his company, Spencer Trenching, farming, raising livestock and owning his own semi and gravel trailer. In the weeks before his passing, he spoke of retiring on the farm and rekindling his passion of working with horses. We will be forever proud of Hilton’s integrity, selflessness, and countless life lessons learned by being in his presence.

A celebration of Hilton’s life was held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 26, 2017, at the Hall in Craik, Sask. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude for the medical efforts of the doctors and nurses at the Pasqua Hospital Intensive Care Unit and their compassion towards Hilton and his loved ones.
