Obituary: Hoehn, Jesse

Jesse Hoehn, age 25, passed away suddenly on a construction site south of Davidson, Feb. 13, 2017.

Jesse was born at Providence Hospital in Moose Jaw, Sask., on Aug. 7, 1991. He began his life in Palmer, Sask., and attended school in Gravelbourg for grades 1 and 2. In 1998 the family moved to Assiniboia where Jesse attended Grade 3. The final move to Davidson was in 2000 where Jesse completed his schooling.

Jesse’s interest in sports came at a young age, including hockey, skateboarding, volleyball and baseball. Jesse also enjoyed dirtbiking, quadding, hunting and fishing.

Snowboarding was his biggest passion. When he wasn’t snowboarding he was watching videos of snowboarding, or planning the next trip with his buddies.

After his schooling, he worked for the Town of Davidson, RM grader operator, Richardson Pioneer and finally with Russell Redi Mix.

Jesse had a talent for fixing and working with equipment and machinery. He could also fix pretty much any electronic or computer issue in minutes.

Jesse enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was quiet, fun loving, energetic and a dedicated guy.

He was close with his sister Chelsey. On Dec. 19, he became an uncle for the first time to twin boys, Rhett and Jase Robertson. Jesse was afraid to hold the babies at first, just the week before his sudden death he finally felt confident enough to hold Rhett. He was able to feed him his bottle and Chelsey said he had the biggest grin on his face. Unfortunately, there is no picture of this precious moment and they will never get to know their Uncle Jesse.

There are so many stories to share about Jesse. Please share them with each other and don’t let his memory fade.

Jesse is survived by his parents, Mike and Carol Hoehn; sister, Chelsey (Robert) Robertson and children Rhett and Jase; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A celebration of Jesse’s life was held Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Davidson, Sask.

Obituary: Haight, Rose

Rose Haight

Rose Haight (nee Paulow), age 85, passed peacefully into glory to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, Feb. 11, 2017 with family by her side at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon.

Rose was born August 25, 1931 to her parents, John and Anna Paulow. She grew up on the family farm near Krydor, Sask. After completing school Rose moved to Saskatoon. She started work at the Saskatoon Sanatorium, then later as a telephone operator.

Rose married Glenn Haight on October 14, 1961. They settled in Hanley where they farmed together, and raised their three children (Jeff, Audrey and Lyle).

She was a strong farm girl, who worked hard her whole life. Rose enjoyed the beauty of God’s creation every day of her life. She delighted in watching baby barn swallows sticking their yellow beaks and heads over the edge of a nest for the first time, seeing young calves kicking up their heels, kittens carefully walking across the grass feeling the soft blades on their tender toes, and she loved to pet the soft heads of the baby chicks as they ran around and pecked the ground for the first time.

Rose loved to see the flowers blossoming around the house, crops growing in the fields, and the many trees growing around the yard that she and her husband, Glenn, planted. Rose enjoyed gardening, canning, quilt making, helping move farm equipment to different fields, and many other aspects of the farm life. At the end of every day she loved to read her Bible, and the Daily Bread devotional.

Rose loved and remembered the achievements of her husband, children, grandchildren, and other family members and friends. Rose is fondly remembered for the many games of checkers she played with her children and grandchildren, a cookie box that was always full, ample supplies of peppermints in the cupboard, and her famous macaroni dish made with just the right amount of Cheez Whiz in the sauce. She put others first many times saying, “Don’t worry about me. You do what has to be done first.”

Rose will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Rose is survived by: her husband, Glenn, of 55 years; children Jeff (Lana), Audrey (Nick) and Lyle (Jill); eight grandchildren (Aaron, Joel, Jared, Caleb, Bria, Kyla, Carolanna and Lydia); two great-grandchildren (Jesse and Micah); younger brother Steve (Allene), and numerous nephews and nieces.

Rose was predeceased by an older infant brother, parents John and Anna, older brother John and his wife Mary.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Prairie Spring Care Homes, the Saskatoon Cancer Center, St Paul’s Hospital, Royal University Hospital 6200 and Oncology Day Care, for their great care of Rose during her last few years. A celebration of Rose’s life will be held Monday, February 20 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hanley Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hanley, Sask. Arrangements are in the care of Hanson’s Funeral Home of Davidson, Saskatchewan. Donations in lieu of flowers can be directed to Hanley Lutheran Church, Saskatoon Cancer Center, or a charity of choice.

Though Rose’s strong heart has stopped its beating,
birds will keep on softly singing,
gentle breezes will keep on blowing,
through the yard that Glenn and Rose’s love built,
until we meet Jesus, and forever more.

Craik, Obituary

Obituary: Reich, Rose

Rose Marie Reich

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Rose Reich at the Craik and District Health Centre on Feb. 7 in her 95th year.

Rose was the third child born to Raymond and Katerine Heck of Holdfast. The family farmed six miles east of Penzance in the Mariposa district where Rose attended school.

In October 1941 she married Frank Reich and they farmed east of Craik. They moved to Craik for the winter months and then moved into Craik permanently in the home Frank built.

Rose was predeceased by her husband Frank, her sisters Margaret and Anne and her brother John.

She is survived by her loving family: Gerald and Bernette, Richard and Laurel, Danny and Theresa, nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Rose also leaves behind her brother George and sister Fran as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Rose’s life will take place at a later date. For friends so wishing, memorial donations in memory of Rose may be directed to the Craik and District Memorial Fund or to a charity of choice.

The Reich families wish to thank the Craik Health Centre for the excellent care they gave Rose.

Obituary: White, Gerald

On January 29, 2017 Gerald White of Edmonton, formerly of Girvin, Sask., passed away peacefully at the age of 92. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter Sharon (Ron), two grandsons Carey (Sue) and Greg, great-granddaughter Amy, one brother Bill, as well as many relatives and friends.

Gerald was predeceased by his wife Kelly, his parents Levi and Beatrice, and four sisters and two brothers.

A graveside service was held on Friday, February 3, 2017 at 12:00 noon at Evergreen Funeral Chapel, 16304 Fort Road, Edmonton. Gerald was laid to rest with his beloved wife Kelly.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Youville Nursing Home, St. Albert.

Obituary: Puckett, Dwight

Dwight Puckett
1947 — 2017    

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Dwight Puckett on Jan. 12, 2017.  Dwight was a devoted husband and family man, extremely proud of his wife, his three children, and equally proud of his four grandchildren.

He spent many hours fishing and hunting with his family, two of his great passions of his life.  He was an avid spectator at his childrens’ and grandchildrens’ sporting events, and was also involved with Boy Scouts and Air Cadets. Dwight spent many years teaching hunter safety courses as well. He had a wide variety of interests, most of which involved the great outdoors — hunting, fishing, flying small planes, and tractor pulling. Who can forget the sound of the Oliver Super 99 pulling the sled down the track?

For the last 15 years Dwight spent most summer weekends at black powder shoots with the Bethune and Saskatoon gun clubs where he made many treasured friends. During the week, he spent his time tinkering at his small engine repair business in Davidson. If you couldn’t find him in there, he was having coffee at the Shell, playing pool at the Seniors’ Centre, or having his “daily Pil” at a local watering hole.

Dwight was predeceased by his parents Neil and Margaret, grandson Allen Nelson, and brother-in-law Ron Balanoff. He will be deeply missed by wife Lynn, sons Bob and Michael (Kim), and daughter Michele (Gilbert) Nelson; grandchildren Trevor and Travis Nelson, Haylie and Hayden Puckett; brothers Jim (Fay) and Merritt; parents-in-law Bob and Phyllis Balanoff; sisters-in-law Penny Anderson, Pat (Kevin) Mackrell, Susan (Dave) Rodzen, Robin (Toby) Balanoff-Hok; step-grandchildren Jeff (Sandy) Nelson, Jeremy (Nicole) Nelson; step-great-grandchildren Shayla, Makayla and Jaxon Nelson.

A Celebration Of Life Funeral Service was held for Dwight at the United Church in Davidson, Sask., on Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, 11:00 a.m.

For friends so wishing, memorial donations in memory of Dwight may be directed to the Arm River Wildlife Federation.

Obituary: Storey, Peter

Peter Storey

Leslie Peter Storey passed away peacefully on January 16, 2017 in the Davidson Health Centre at the age of 88 years.

Pete was born in the family farmhouse southwest of Girvin, Sask. on February 1, 1928 to Herb and Teresa Storey, a brother to Clarence, age 4. Pete grew up on the family farm and was a true home body even as a child — he loved being on the farm. He went to school in Girvin and stayed with family in Regina to complete his Grade 12, which was quite an accomplishment in those days. He returned to work the family farm. Pete married Anita in 1953 and moved her in to the family farmhouse which they shared with his parents until Herb and Teresa moved in to Girvin.

Pete enjoyed sports, played hockey and ball and cheered steadfastly for the Blue Jays and the Riders. Pete loved horses, owning and raising both riding and standard bred race horses along with brother Clarence on the family farm. He and Nita raised a variety of livestock over the years including chickens, ducks, turkeys, pigs, Hereford and Black Angus cattle, dogs and cats. Pete cared for the earth, not only as a farmer but in his daily actions, meticulously following the 3-Rs of recycling. Pete retired from farming but continued to oversee things from a supervisory role until they moved to Davidson in 2012.

Pete will be remembered by those who knew him for his quiet strength, unending patience and unassuming nature. Pete was predeceased by his parents Herb and Teresa Storey, daughter Karen Lidington, brother Clarence, sister-in-law Erma, brother-in-law Harold.

Pete is survived by his loving family: Anita, wife of 63 years; daughter Susan (Rick) Parenteau, grandsons Colin (Victoria), Joey (Sabrina) — great-granddaughters Kendra and Bella, Spencer (Amanda Peppin); son Brent (Susan), granddaughters Shalene (Kevin) Johnson — great-grandchildren Elle and Deacon, Shannon Storey (Eric Tollefson); sister-in-law Norma McNabb, numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
