Andreas, Stephen

It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Stephen David Andreas on November 8, 2018 at the age of forty seven. He was predeceased by his mother Jacqueline, his father Frank and his mother-in-law Bernice Jaremicki, as well as grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Stephen is survived by his partner Cindy, daughter Paige, son Jaden and his three brothers Kelvin, Trent, Robin and their families. Born September 1, 1971 at the Craik Union Hospital, Stephen was raised on the family farm, east of Girvin. Educated in Davidson, Stephen went on after high school to further his post secondary at SIAST in the field of Heavy Duty Mechanics, before returning to the Girvin area to be involved in the farming operation. The farm would eventually expand to become a livestock venture. Stephen’s passion for helping people would ultimately be the driving force behind him establishing a second business, Dark Knight Towing. Stephen was a generous and loving person who touched many in the short time he was allowed to be here with us. As a loving partner, great father, loyal friend, helpful neighbour and little brother, Stephen’s passing leaves a deep wound in all who knew him. With arrangements entrusted to Hanson’s Funeral Home in Davidson, funeral services were held on November 14, 2018 with the interment following at the Girvin Cemetery. Those wishing to do so, may make donations to a trust fund set up for Paige and Jaden at the Credit Union in Chamberlain, Saskatchewan.

Morrison, Arthur

Arthur Stanley Morrison passed away peacefully at the young age of 96, November 7, 2018 at the Davidson Health Care Centre. He was born in Davidson March 30, 1922, to John and Florence Morrison, second oldest child in a family of six. He attended Maple Valley and Farredale schools, then worked as a logger in Dryden, Ontario before returning back home to farm. In 1953 he married the love of his life, Kathleen Low.

Dad, a mild-mannered man, lived through many changes in his lifetime, seen many hardships, and received many blessings! He grew up in an era that is hard to imagine—no electricity, very little heat, no running water, no cars, no phones. These things would seem impossible to live without today. He had a close-knit family that worked, played, danced, and always laughed together. Though always a farmer, throughout the years he was also a member of the School board, Wheat Pool, Co-op Board, Farmers Union, and square dance clubs. He worked at the Davidson Union hospital (as known back then) for five years until retiring at the age of 65, although never really retiring from farming. In his spare time dad would be “tinkering in his yard”, gardening, woodcarving, drawing, reading history books, plucking on his guitar, or at the farm helping out with whatever needed to be done. Very seldom a harsh word spoken, quietly understanding, a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. A role model to many!

He was predeceased by his parents John and Florence Morrison; wife of 61 years Kathleen; daughter in infancy-Jean; siblings Harold, Jack, Hilda, Betty, and Bert, and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law. He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Alex (Gloria), Maureen (Eddie) Kammer, Stuart (Michele), Elaine (Kim) Sikorski, Lenora (Randy) Dulle; 12 grandchildren: Mylo (Janel) Kammer, Rhauni (Brandon) Zoutman, Anna Bearss (Brandon Sundquist), Allan Morrison (Mazi Cunningham), Rayn (Vince) Badinski, Brad (Mandy) Morrison, Kara Chapman, Billy (Jess) Bearss, Justine, Kole (April), Rhett Dulle and James Morrison; 11 great-grandchildren: Macy and Maddax Morrison; Felix Kammer; Chaz and Kye Zoutman; Cohen Sundquist; Jaks, Mickie and Chess Badinski, and Addison and Rowan Bearss. Also survived by brothers-and sisters-in-law: Leona, Justina, Elsie Morrison, Leslie Taylor, Marlene Low, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. Thank you to the doctors and all the staff at the Davidson and Dinsmore Health Care Centres who helped care for our dad, and for all who shared in his life.

A memorial gathering took place November 16, 2018 in the Davidson Town Hall. Arrangements entrusted to Hanson’s Funeral Home, Davidson, Sask.

Ruth was born in Birch Hills, SK on March 1, 1930. She was the fourth child of Norwegian immigrant parents and the baby of the family for eleven years until her youngest brother arrived. She was very proud of her Norwegian heritage. Ruth enjoyed growing up on the farm north of Birch Hills and completed her schooling in town. After graduating, Ruth attended Saskatoon Normal School to obtain her teaching certificate. She accepted her first teaching position in Bastness School followed by positions in Naicam, SK., then Mount Vernon, west of Loreburn SK., and finally in Loreburn where she met the love of her life, Jim Dodds. They were married on July 14, 1956 and soon after started a family and raised five children. Ruth was active in the community as a member of the UCW, she taught 4H and Sunday school, led the choir, and enjoyed curling. She kept busy with her renowned flower and vegetable gardens, canning hundreds of jars of fruit and vegetables each year. She became an excellent cook and baker and we all enjoyed her delicious pies and cinnamon buns, especially Dad. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, and quilting, and made a quilt for each of her grandchildren as a high school graduation gift. Ruth was a true example of a hard-working, dedicated farm wife and sometimes even helped Jim out in the field. Over the years, Ruth and Jim enjoyed travelling to many parts of Canada, the U.S.A., and Mexico, and in 1982 she won a trip to Amsterdam which resulted in a visit to nearby Norway to meet some of her relatives. She especially enjoyed her casino bus trips. She also enjoyed coffee time, potlucks and playing cards with her condo friends in Saskatoon. Competitive by nature, Ruth beat many family members and friends at Scrabble and Blockus, and enjoyed cheering on her favourite curling teams and watching the Olympics on TV. She was so proud to be Canadian!

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all the healthcare and private homecare workers who provided outstanding care for Ruth over the past year.
