AMUNDRUD, CLETUS ERLING 

It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Cletus Erling Amundrud on Friday, December 15, 2017 at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital in Moose Jaw.  We felt comfort in knowing that he knew all of his immediate family had gathered by his bedside for his final journey just before his passing. He was the youngest of seven children born into the Joseph & Ada (Pratt) Amundrud family.  He was born on NE-8-23-27 W2nd at Aylesbury, Saskatchewan on October 5, 1930. He always said he didn’t grow to be a big man because it was the beginning of the Dirty Thirties and he had to fight to get his food from his older siblings.  He attended school in Aylesbury and then helped his father on the farm.  Later he went to Calgary, Alberta and got a job putting up ice into box cars that was shipped for refrigeration purposes. After that, he got a job working for an electrician and wired the main post office in Calgary. Later on, he came back to the Craik area and worked for Bert Wildfong on his farm followed up with delivering fuel for the Craik Co-Op. It was at work where he met the love of his life, Celestina (Sal) Krassman as she was the Co-Op grocery store cashier.  They got married on a beautiful, warm day on November 15, 1954. In the spring of ’56, they rented the Stevens’ farm, which is 1.5 miles west of Aylesbury and where their large home still stands. He served on the local farm club executive, the snowplow club, and the local Co-Op board. He was one of the founding members of the Palliser Wheat Grower’s Association and the Canadian Custom Combiners’ Association. They worked very hard on their mixed farm with their three sons and their farm grew to a substantial size. They went custom combining in the U.S. for several years.  Cletus continued to actively farm until 2007, which was the year he was very honoured to receive the Century Farm Award.  Cletus & Sal enjoyed retirement on the farm and grew a large garden every year and looked after their beautiful yard.  They loved entertaining their friends & family in their comfortable home. They also enjoyed their weekly trips to Moose Jaw to do some shopping and some relaxation at the casino.  He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph & Ada Amundrud, brothers, Addis, Ellwyn, & Dale, sister, Lela McInnes, parents-in-law, Louis & Agatha Krassman, brothers-in-law, John Vopni, John Kunkel, Ron McInnes, Albert Mills, Vic Krassman, Garry Krassman, & Doug Simpson, sisters-in-law, Mary Amundrud & Daisy Amundrud. He is survived by his sisters, Leona Kunkel of Davidson & Phyllis Mills of Bengough. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Dorothy Amundrud of Melville, Irene Krassman of Davidson, and Monica Simpson of Red Deer, Alberta. He is survived by numerous nephews, nieces, loving friends & neighbours who thought the world of him. Cletus is survived by his loving family, Celestina (Sal), three sons, Guy Cletus (Janice) of Saskatoon, Alan Russell of Craik, and Brian John of Kobe, Japan, seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren. As per his wishes, Cletus’ memorial service will be held on July 26, 2018 in Aylesbury Hall when it is easier for his family and numerous friends to be together to celebrate his life. Funeral services will be provided by Hanson’s Funeral Services of Davidson, Saskatchewan.

Miller, Christian

The Miller family is saddened to convey the passing of Christian Miller of Craik, Sask.

Chris passed away on July 7 after being diagnosed with cancer in June.

He was predeceased by his mother Julia, brothers John and Tom and sisters Ann Selinger and Barb Reich.

Chris is survived by his wife Sharon, son Kevin, daughter Corrine and sisters Emelia Sperling and Sadie Lipp, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Chris was born on the Miller farm near Aylesbury. He was the youngest son of Peter and Julia Mille (Massine). He received his education at Watkins, Hallville and Aylesbury schools.

After leaving school Chris farmed, then worked for Craik Municipality until 1963. He married Sharon Oddan October 1, 1966. He was a mechanic for Co-op Implements until 1985, then worked for Schroeder Brothers from 1986 to 2000. Chris loved fishing, tinkering and growing a large garden.

As per Chris’s wishes, there will be no funeral. Chris was greatly loved and will be missed. A special thanks to everyone who helped us through this difficult time.

Schmiedge, Don

It is with heavy hearts the family of Don Schmiedge announces his passing. Born October 20, 1943 Don passed June 11, 2018. Predeceased by parents Ted and Annie and brother Ken, Don leaves to mourn wife Nola, sons Trent (Andree), Chad (Kris) and grandchildren Ben and Kate, niece Rachelle (Tina and Kelly) brother Gary (Lana) and many more nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Don farmed, raised purebred Herford cattle, raised and raced standardbred horses, hunted and fished summer and winter. He served 18 years on Davidson Town Council and several years as a director and President of the Saskatchewan Standardbred Horse Racing Association.

The centre and love of his life was his family. Don followed wherever the family took him be it the hockey rink, soccer field, night clubs to hear the Blue Mules, dance recitals to see his Katie dance or building in the backyard – forts, birdhouses, or whatever his kids or grandkids wanted. When Grandpa and Ben made a building supply run, GPS in hand, we never knew when they would be back or what they would be back with. Greatly loved and sadly missed by all.

Gust, Marj

Marj was born on 17th July 1931 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. In 1932 she arrived in Bladworth, Saskatchewan and was adopted by John and Lottie Mathers. Marj was raised on the Mathers family farm a mile and a half south of Bladworth along Highway 11. At the young age of 4 Marj lost her mother Lottie. Marj attended school in Bladworth where she graduated in 1948. In November 1953 Marj married the love of her life George Gust. They resided with John on the Mathers farm where they raised two children Rick and Kae. In 1967 John passed away. According to Marj the Mathers farm was lost because the highway was about to go through the living room. The family then moved to 407 Toronto Street in Davidson. Marj lost her husband George in January 1992. Marj was able to stay at the house until 2008 when she moved to the Manor and then to the Davidson Health Center.

Marj enjoyed being at home to raise the children and take care of the home. From an early age she enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, and quilting. Her passion for this was evident in all of her family members’ homes. For many years Marj was an avid Avon salesperson. Marj and George were always up for entertaining. Whether it was another couple over for a game of cards or 30 or 40 people to play music and dance the night away. Backyard gathering were a favorite for Marj as well. George and Marj spend many nights in their motorhome either camping or attending other small town fairs. Marj was also well known for her memory of dates and the cost of any purchases. She never lost her wit or sense of humor.

Anderson, Bernadine

Bernadine Barbara Anderson was born to Magdelena and George Sperling, April 17, 1923, on her parent’s homestead near Aylesbury, Saskatchewan. Her parents were of German heritage who immigrated to Canada in the 1900s. Bernie passed away quietly in her sleep on Monday, June 18th., 2018. Bernie was the last surviving, and, youngest sibling of eight – three brothers, Joseph, John, George; and four sisters, Agatha, Rose, Anne and Emma.

Bernie is survived by her loving family, Vida Anderson (Orest Gulaga), Roger (Rosemarie) Anderson, Glorianne Jones, Janine (Lorrie) Webber, Brent (Judy) Anderson, Shelley (Tim) Kreutzer, Aileen (Harry) Kutcher, Dean (Susan) Anderson, Darcy Anderson (Bev Rausch), Kea Rempel; 28 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Also numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. Bernie was predeceased by her husband, Harvey; son, Ian and great-grandson, Kristian Giddings.

Mom’s childhood was filled with memories of life on the farm including horse and buggy transportation, picking eggs, gardening, herding cattle, pumping water, wandering aimlessly, and homemade ‘everything’.

Mom attended most of her school years at a one-room building called Willow Bluff. She often talked of her competiveness in lessons and activities including geography, spelling, singing, reciting poems and baseball.

Mom graduated from grade 12 and went on to complete a credential from Reliance Business College in Regina.

Mom learned from both her parents, the importance of a deep faith in God. Mom always used her love for and faith in God as a means to everything she did. Regardless of life’s challenges, Mom had a fierce warrior spirit and always tried to stay positive.

Mom was active in gardening, walking and riding her bicycle, right up to when she was about 90 years old.

Many have shared that Mom was an inspiration. Even though we have lost her physically, memories of her will prevail in our hearts and minds as she continues to live on in each of us.

A mass was held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 22nd, 2018, in the St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Craik, Saskatchewan. Arrangements in care of Hanson’s Funeral Home. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church. Craik, Saskatchewan.

Elmer William Werdal

March 15, 1932 – May 27, 2018

On May 27, 2018 Elmer Werdal of Aylesbury, SK passed away at home. Elmer was predeceased by his loving wife, Bonnie. Lovingly remembered by his three children Darrel (Leona), Shane (Laurie), Lori (John) Hansen; his grandchildren Miranda (Greg) Stadnyk, Cora-lee Werdal (Derek Wenger), Brett (Amanda) Werdal, Ashley (Stewart) Hunter, Jesse Werdal, Jessica Gagne, Charlotte (Lasse) Hansen, Daniel Hansen (Camilla Morsing), Alicia Hansen; great-grandchildren Alexis Masch, Joseph Stadnyk, Raelynn Wenger, Hayden Werdal, Hailey Werdal, Benjamin Werdal, Alexander Hunter, William Hunter, Nohr Hansen and Elmer Morsing.
