Hamre, Ronald

It is with deep sorrow that the family of Ronald Hamre, age 92, announces his passing on Friday, March 29, 2019 at the Meadows, Swift Current, SK. Ronald Clare Hamre was born on December 28, 1926 in Hanley, SK — the third son of Tandrup & Marie Hamre. Ron married Wynona Adams on August 4, 1949 and they lived in Kenaston, SK and Swift Current. Ron spent much of his early working career working in his parent’s Red and White Store in Kenaston. Ron held a Journeyman Electrician Certificate and was involved with rural electrification around Kenaston. He also operated a TV and radio repair business. Ron was very involved in the community, serving on the Kenaston School Board for many years, and for nine years on the Davidson School Unit board — two of those as the Chair. Ron was a Boy Scout Leader for many years and was proud to help several young men become Queen Scouts. He was a Mason and member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and was a past Master of both. In 1969, Ron went to University and he was awarded a Bachelor of Education with Distinction in 1975. He and the family moved to Swift Current in 1971 and Ron taught Electronics, Electricity, Machine Shop, and Math at the Swift Current Comprehensive High School. He also established a Photography Club and a Ham Radio Club at the high school. Ron retired from teaching in 1990 and was able to spend more time pursuing his hobbies — Big Band music, amateur radio, camping, photography, gardening, stained glass, and model boat building. Special thanks to the caregivers at the Meadows for many years of excellent care provided to Ron. Ronald was predeceased by his parents, Tandrup & Marie Hamre; his brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Dorothy Hamre; his sister-in-law, Muriel Hamre; and by his brother-in-law, Jim Adams. Ron will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 69 years, Wynona Hamre (nee Adams); his children, Kathryn (Evanna Simpson) Hamre (Regina, SK), Nancy Kirk (Climax, SK), Lyle (Chris) Hamre (Fredericton, NB), and Alynne Hamre (Swift Current, SK); his grandchildren, Blair (Stacy) Wasmann, Jori (Emma) Kirk, Logan (Kayla) Kirk, Rhett Kirk, Kate Hamre, and Spencer Hamre; his great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Aidan Wasmann, and Jaxon and Cooper Kirk; his brothers, Vance Hamre and Keith (Ethel) Hamre; and by many nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service for Ronald Hamre was held on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at 2:00 pm from the Swift Current Funeral Home Chapel, Swift Current, SK with Rev. Eleanor Rockabar officiating. “Just a Closer Walk with Thee” was sung by the congregation, with Mary Henderson serving as song leader and pianist. The eulogy was given by Jori Kirk. Ronald’s grandchildren, Blair Wasmann, Jori Kirk, Logan Kirk, Rhett Kirk, Kate Hamre, and Spencer Hamre served as Honorary Pallbearers. A Private Interment Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers and in memory of Ronald Hamre, donations made to the Alzheimer’s Society and the Meadows Auxiliary would be appreciated by the family. Beaumont, Donna

July 25, 1944 – March 25, 2019

Donna Jean Beaumont passed away in Saskatoon on March 25, 2019. She was predeceased by her parents Syd and Lena Beaumont, brother Roy and sister-in-law Jennie. Left to mourn her passing are brothers Lorne and Janice, Murray and Audrey, Kevin, sister-in-law Donna and numerous nieces and nephews.

Donna grew up in the Gilead district at Hanley. She started out her schooling by taking a horse and buggy to a one room country school and finishing her schooling riding a school bus into Hanley. Donna worked in Saskatoon and Calgary before returning to Hanley and working at Dundurn Military Base. Donna followed that by starting her own housekeeping business in Hanley. Donna fought a long battle with Parkinson’s disease and spent her last years in Sunnyside Adventist Care Centre. The family would like to thank the staff at Sunnyside for their care and support. There will be a Family graveside service on Tuesday April 2, 2019 at the Hanley Community Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to a time of lunch and fellowship at the Senior’s Centre in the Hanley Hall at 2:00 p.m. following the service. STEPHENS: Doris

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother Doris Stephens on March 26, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer in Regina, Saskatchewan, at the age of 85. Cherishing her memory are her children Don (Christine), Dan (Rosanne) and Rob (Catherine); eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren with the newest great-grandchild due to arrive in April.  Welcoming mom with open arms will be her loving husband Brian, as well as her nine predeceased siblings. Mom will be sorely missed by numerous nieces and nephews, brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws and her many friends. A Private Family Interment will be held in Imperial Cemetery at a later date. BATE/ZIEFFLIE, Verlee

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Frances Verlee Lund was born in Young, SK. on May 16, 1936. She grew up in Davidson, married Roy Ziefflie in 1955 and together they raised a family of six. After Roy’s passing in 1981 Verlee moved to Saskatoon. She married William Bate in 1985. She worked at many jobs throughout her life including telephone operator, care aid in the Davidson home and hospital and medical receptionist. She was especially proud of becoming an LPN in 1983 and working for various homecare companies. After retirement, she continued volunteering and caring for elderly friends. Verlee’s early years were filled with figure skating, curling and cultivating life-long friendships. Music was a large part of her life and she enjoyed everything from church hymns to jazz and pop. She was especially close to her sister Elaine and together they attended the Jazz Festival, made Christmas cake and traveled to visit their brother Perry. Verlee painted, played the organ and loved having her large family over for holiday meals. She loved to watch old movies, TV shows and sports and recently learned to play bridge. She was a devout Christian and spoke fondly of her Bible study group. Verlee felt all meals should be shared with loved ones, perfectly cooked and always said that she hoped there was eating in heaven. Verlee was predeceased by her parents Ralph and Frances Lund, stepmother Edna Lund, first husband Roy Ziefflie, second husband Bill Bate, and son David Ziefflie. She leaves to mourn her sister Elaine (Norbert) Reich; brother Perry (Ardene) Lund; children Lee (Jordan) Ward, Tim (Mary) Ziefflie, Jille Ziefflie, Roxanne (Eldon)Ziefflie, and Scott Ziefflie; grandchildren Dan (Becky) Ward, Paul Ward, Corey (Joelyn) Ward, Matthew (Amy)Ward, Rebecca Ward, Brook (Kathrina) Byrns, Alyssa (Dave) Byrns, Mackenzie (Ryan) Byrns, Jessika (Alex) Agioritis, and Karissa Ziefflie; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. Verlee passed away peacefully after a brief illness on March 15, 2019. Her children would like to thank the nurses and doctors who cared for Verlee the last few months. The celebration of Verlee’s life was held on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at 2 p.m. at the Rock of Ages Lutheran Brethren Church, 130 Kingsmere Place, Saskatoon. Spencer, Dr. Gordon

Dr. Gordon Hilton Spencer, 95 years old, passed away on March 14, 2019, in Calgary, Alberta. Born on the farm near Penzance, Sask.; the youngest of eight children to Harriet and Nigel Spencer. Gordon practiced veterinary medicine in the Westlake Veterinary District as well as managing the family farm.  Gordon married Muriel Martin from Watrous, Sask, in 1950. They started their family of five children on the farm before moving to the town of Craik in 1961. Gordon was very active in the community giving his time to such activities as teaching Sunday School, leading the youth group, steering the Lions Band, and leading the 4-H calf and horse clubs. In 1969 Gordon moved the family to Saskatoon, when he accepted a position with the Government of Canada, Department of Agriculture, Meat Inspection Division. In 1973, he accepted a position in Calgary as the Assistant Veterinarian with the Meat Inspection Division and later promoted to Supervisor, Central Alberta and Northwest Territories. Gordon retired 1988.

In Calgary, Gordon was a respected member of the Deer Park United Church. Gordon was a church elder and helped coordinate the seniors club for many years.

Gordon leaves behind his wife, Muriel, of 68 years and all five children; Dawn (Paul), Richard, Merle (Bruce), Owen (Barb), and Jenny (Mark). Nine very much loved grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Gordon’s family would like to thank the staff at Revera MacKenzie Towne for the care they gave Gordon.

A celebration of Gordon’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. March 30, 2019 at Deer Park United Church; officiated by Rev. Tom Melvin. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mustard Seed Calgary

Allan Keith Schulz

October 10,1935 – January 23, 2019

It is with great sadness that we, the family of Allan Keith Schulz announce his passing, after a brief battle with cancer.

Al was born in Davidson Saskatchewan on October 10, 1935, and spent his last days in Stony Plain Alberta, where he died on January 23, 2019 at the age of 83.

Al is survived by his wife Joyce and his son Don (Sherry) of Edmonton, Alta., his brothers Ron (Bea) of Torrington, Alta., Morris (Lynn) of Thompson, Manitoba, sisters Nina of Davidson, Sask., Wilma (Ron) of Good Spirit Acres, Sask. and Joyce (Andy) of Port Coquitlam, BC., as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, and one Aunt Ada of Regina, Sask.

Al was predeceased by his father Carl in 1963, his mother Catherine (Kay) in 2001, and his brother-in-law Bob (Nina) in 2017.
