Betty Swanson April 25,1945 – October,16 2026
It is with profound sadness, we announce that Betty Swanson of Craik, SK, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on October 16, 2026.
Mom was born April 25,1945, in Central Butte, SK, to John and Hazel Stevenson. At that time they lived on a farm near Bridgeford, SK. They moved to Grainland, SK, when mom was six years old, this is where she met dad, Gordon Swanson, and they were married September 30 1961. They lived in Elbow, SK, before moving to North Portal, SK, where they ran a gas/restaurant/repair shop. In 1966 they moved to Davidson, SK where mom worked at the hospital and the hotel there. Finally, they resided in Craik, SK where she had various jobs, such as cleaning rooms at the motel and at Harvest Services. She did the bookkeeping for their business, Craik Auto Repair. She also drove bus for the Craik School Division for 15 years.
Mom was predeceased by her parents, husband Gordon in February 2025, and great grandson Milo. She leaves to mourn her passing, her immediate family, daughter Colinda (Darrin), grandson Jordan (Jaclyn), and great grandchildren, Hayden and Sabrina; daughter Glenda (Vincent), grandsons Dante and Jaden (Cacia), great grandsons Jackson and Dawson, and soon to be great granddaughter. Also left to cherish her memory is her sister Peggy (Dave) and sisters in law Dorothy, Dolores, and Ann (family friend Larry) and brother in law Roy Swanson, as well as special nieces, nephews, and friends.
The coffee was always on and everyone was welcome at mom’s table. She loved to get together for coffee, serve her baking, visit and play cards and games. For quite some time her highlight was joining her 2:00pm coffee crew of friends. In her earlier years Mom and Dad attended the Over 40 Dance Club and she also enjoyed curling and volunteering in town with the Craik Willing Workers and with the 4-H Club, and later with Communities in Bloom and the Craik Pioneer Museum. She took pride in her yard and garden and did her grass cutting and hedge trimming right up until this summer when her back pain would not allow her to do it anymore.
In keeping with mom’s wishes, a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
For those so wishing, memorial donations in mom’s memory may be directed to a charity of your choice.
A job well done here Mom, you and Dad can dance together again and greet everyone with a fresh pot of coffee. We love you and we will miss you deeply.
