Dorothy Evelyn Storey

Dorothy passed away peacefully Friday, August 23, 2019, at the age of 93, in the Central Okanagan Hospice after a full life, well lived.

Dorothy was born January 29, 1926 at McDowall, Saskatchewan.  She was raised there, the youngest of nine children.   She went to school in McDowall and then started working for the Saskatchewan Telephone company.  She later transferred to Davidson, Saskatchewan,  where she met and married Lorne Storey in 1952.

Dorothy and Lorne farmed south of Girvin, Saskatchewan for many years.  Dorothy was active in the Community and the Church, she enjoyed many close friendships and led a busy life.  Lorne and Dorothy had a custom harvesting   business and combined in the US and Saskatchewan over 30 years.  They later became “snowbirds” and travelled south for the Winter.

After Lorne’s passing, Dorothy moved to Kelowna in 2009, to be nearer family.   She enjoyed her years living at Missionwood and made many new friends.  Dorothy will be always remembered as a kind, wise and wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Dorothy is lovingly remembered by her daughters Ione (Douglas) Colville of Calgary and Jennifer (Eugene) Thompson of Kelowna, and by her grandchildren Veronica McKitrick, Andrea Thompson and Michael Thompson and her great-grandchildren Rosemary McKitrick and Kyler Thompson.  She is also survived by her sister Ethel Johnstone of Lloydminster, sisters-in-law Milan Puckett, Bonnie Storey, Irene Storey and brother-in-law Randy Storey and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was pre-deceased by her husband Lorne, son-in-law Thomas Irvine, parents Adam and Janet Johnstone, her siblings Janet, Mary, Jean, James, Alexandria, Andrew, Jessie and their spouses.

A Celebration of Life was held in Davidson, Sk. Saturday September 14, 2019  at 2 PM in the Catholic Hall, preceded by a small graveside service in Saskatoon at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, at 10 AM where she will be laid to rest beside Lorne.

The family would like to thank Dr. L Pavan and the staff at the Hospice in Kelowna, IH Homecare, We Care and Bayshore Nursing for their excellent care and kindness. For friends so wishing, donations can be made to the Davidson Health Center or charity of one’s choice.
