Edward Walter Brooker (1939-2024)

April 27, 1939 – August 30, 2024
Ed passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Friday, August 30 at Long Lake Valley Facility in Imperial, SK.

Ed was born on the family farm 11 miles west of Imperial to Walter and Violet Brooker.  They later moved to Ed & Gayle’s current farm home near town.  Following graduation in 1957, Ed worked at various branches of the Royal Bank in Saskatchewan.  Ipsco (now Evraz) in Regina was his next stop before returning to farm with his father in 1961.  Ed and Gayle were married 61 years ago on Saturday, October 5.

Ed’s Favourite Times: family ski vacations and trips to Hawaii; curling, golfing, jogging and walking with grand dog, Jass until cancer slowed him down; Etter’s Beach; his “happy places” in California ; Anniversary cruises in Europe and Panama; Rider games and Grey Cups; watching Connor and Keaton’s hockey games; and  golf tournaments with Dallas across Canada and to St Andrew’s, Scotland.

Ed was a longtime member of Imperial’s Service Club and a former member of the Masonic Lodge.

Predeceasing Ed were his parents; his daughter-in-law, Melinda (Crumley) Brooker and brother-in-law, Robert Detwiller.  Surviving are his wife Gayle (Detwiller); his son, Todd; daughters, Catherine (Dan) Mengel and Tanice (Brad) Daly; grandsons, Dallas (Chloe) Mengel and Connor and Keaton Daly; step grandson Travis (Grace) DeClercq; great granddaughters, Sienna and Tessa Mengel (born 4 hours after Ed’s passing); step great grandchildren, Dawson, Mersade and Aria DeClercq; sister, Eva (Gerry) MacNeill and sister-in-law Rae (Bob) Lewis and their families. As well, two of Ed’s aunts survive him, Alice French and Jean (Gerry) Langteigne; many cousins and extended family members.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 5 at 2 pm in the Imperial Community Centre.
