Laura Roberts, formerly of Kenaston, Sask., passed away at the Davidson Health Centre on Jan. 8, 2011, seven days before her 100th birthday. She was born on Jan. 15, 1911 to Albert and Laura Mills at Spanish River, Ont. She moved with her family to the Kenaston district in 1918.
Laura was predeceased by her husband Jack Roberts in 1964; parents Albert and Laura Mills, brother Hilmer (Bud) Mills and sister Marion Mills.
She is survived by her son Wayne (Marlene) Roberts; four grandchildren Cheryl (Murray) McLellan, Susan (Garry) Haduik, Rod Roberts and Patti (Dale) Firby; eleven great-grandchildren Blair, Derek and Braiden McLellan; David, Kyle (Lindley) and Lynsae Haduik; Jordon and Kaitlynne Roberts; Dayna, Sarah and Cassie Firby; also sister-in-law Mabel Mills; niece Shirley (Dave) Peter and their family at Dartmouth, N.S. The funeral service was held on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 2 p.m. from Kenaston Place, Kenaston, Sask. with Rev. Blair Dixon (Anglican) officiating.
Pianist was Darla Collins, scripture readers were Cheryl McLellan, Susan Haduik and Patti Firby. The tribute was given by Murray McLellan. A special selection, “Amazing Grace” was played by Derek and Braiden McLellan, Laura’s great-grandsons. Other favorite hymns were “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”, “Christ Arose” and “Precious Lord Take My Hand”. Ushers were Garry Haduik and
Dale Firby. Attending the register were Muriel Wilson and Lynda Pillipow. Honorary pallbearers were all friends who shared in Laura’s life journey. Active pallbearer was Rod Roberts. Interment will take place at a later date in the family plot, Kenaston Community Cemetery, Kenaston, Sask. Hanson’s Funeral Home, Davidson, Sask. were in charge of arrangements.

Louise Anna (Kowalski) Sinnett went to meet the Lord September 18, 2010 at the Davidson Health Centre. Mom was born, raised and educated in Kenaston and area, except for a three-year period in the 1930s when the Frank Kowalski family moved to the Sinnett area, where she met her future husband Lawrence.
Mom will be greatly missed by: Larry (Pat) Sinnett, Reginald Sinnett, Robert (Bob) Sinnett, Margaret (Ken) Johnson and Lauraine (George) Tucker; grandchildren: James Sinnett, Donna (Marcel) Simpson; Nicole (Mike) Davis, Leanne Sinnett; Bradley (Joanna) Johnson, Michael (Pam) Johnson, Ryan (Jolene Hildebrand) Johnson; David (Laura) Tucker, Tammy (Shane) Franks, Bryan Tucker; great-grandchildren: Tyson, Brent and Jaeden Simpson; Mackenzie and Danica Davis; Mickail, Ethan, Samuel and Damien Johnson; Fox and Zen Tucker; Christina, Tyler and Wade Franks; Anthony, Sonya, Kody and Keegan Tucker; sister: LaVern (Mal) Land; sisters-in-law: Ann Kowalski, Rose Paproski; also many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents Frank and Margaret (Began) Kowalski; brothers: Lynwood, Leo, Lorne and Les; sister: Lenora Tallon and husband: Lawrence.
Mom’s first priority was always family and she really got to enjoy all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved her flowers and took great pride in her Hollyhocks. She was always working in her garden. Mom enjoyed when company came over to visit and play cards and you could never leave without at least a meal or some of her delicious baking and tea.
Mom liked travelling with Dad as long as at least one foot was within two feet of the ground. They would visit friends and relatives in the northern states and western Canada; renewing many relationships.
Prayer service was at St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church in Kenaston on Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m. and the celebration of her life was on Sept. 22, also at St. Andrew’s Church at 11:00 a.m.

Laurie was born May 3, 1947 in Saskatoon, along with twin sister Lee. He was raised on the farm east of town and started school the first year of the bus run into Davidson from the Trenton area. Laurie was in the school’s largest beginner’s class, part of the baby boomer generation. As Laurie grew up he became increasingly interested in sports, which he excelled at. Davidson Cardinal baseball and Super League curling were two of his favorites. Laurie was also proud to have been on the 1962 football team when DHS won South Saskatchewan in their level. After high school, he graduated from Voc Ag at the U of S, and then married Valerie Hanson in 1970. Together they farmed with brother Morley and had two children Todd and Sheri. Many happy years were spent on the farm, but Laurie battled addiction, which led to selling the farm and separation from his family. Following difficult years, rehab brought reconciliation and celebration. Laurie was now back with his family and new partner Glennys McNabb. Laurie had another chance and was proud to become a grandfather to three special grandsons, Avery, Easton and Zachary. Good times were spent with family at the lake, on the golf course and by the pool. Laurie and Glennys had family gatherings where everyone was together, enjoying each others company and catching up on what everyone was up to. When Laurie was not working, or on the golf course, he could usually be found fussing with something in the yard, or working on some unique item to celebrate the season. He was a man who liked to keep busy and things had to be just right. Laurie will be dearly missed by his loving partner, Glennys McNabb; mother, Hazel Lockwood; son, Todd Lockwood; daughter, Sheri (Brian) Erickson and family Avery, Easton and Zachary. Laurie also leaves to mourn his sister, Lee Bristow (Lorence Peterson) and family; brother, Morley (Jeannie) Lockwood and family and Glennys’ family, Rick McNabb and son Levi and Janice (Dave) Lloyd and sons Corey and Casey. Laurie was predeceased by his father, Donald Lockwood and brother-in-law, Dale Bristow. Laurie’s true character was very evident during his courageous battle with cancer. He never complained and kept an upbeat attitude towards every new situation that was thrown his way during his hard fought journey. He took control of every situation, never wanting to burden anyone else. Laurie’s attitude made it easier for everyone that loved him to cope with his untimely death. Laurie will be truly missed. On the drizzly evening of September 6, 2010 our world was drastically altered by the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, Kenneth Edward Smith. Ken was born on May 23, 1936 at Davidson, Sask., the third child of George and Vera (Bender) Smith. He was welcomed by older siblings Lloyd and Shirley. Tragedy struck when George was killed in 1940 before the arrival of younger sister Sharon. Raised at Loreburn, he attended Cherry Grove and Bright Schools. On December 28, 1959 Ken married Glenys Lockwood of Davidson. They started farming northeast of Davidson which was home to their children Marlis, Clinton and Blaine. Family was the most important thing in his life. The arrival of the grandchildren was the icing on the cake. Many times “Smithy” was at the neighbours helping fix or build something. A card or curling game was always welcome. He was a quiet man with dignity and a strength admired by many. Farming was so deeply ingrained in his soul less than two weeks before his death he was doing what he loved, working on the farm. Recently when asked why he went to the farm each day his reply was “because I love it”.
Ken is survived by his wife of 51 years Glenys; children Marlis and Louis Duff, Clinton and Linda Smith and Blaine and Cheryl Smith; grandchildren Rychel and Reece Smith, Parker and Sydney Smith and Kenneth Duff. Ken is also remembered by brother Lloyd and Cecile Smith and sisters Shirley and Terry Brush and Sharon Wilkins and partner Oran Reiman; as well as in-laws John and Elva Lockwood, Bob Lockwood and Jill and Dennis Knaus. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also hold the memory of Ken dear. Preceding Ken are his parents George and Vera Smith and in-laws Eugene and Reta Lockwood.
The celebration of Ken’s life was held in the Davidson United Church on Friday, September 10, 2010 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Diane Eurig officiating. The guest registers were attended by Valerie Lockwood and Marilyn Willner. Guests were ushered by Michael Beckie and Ron Morrison. Joyce Ray played many beautiful piano selections as well as providing accompaniment to soloist Karen Reich.
Memories of Dad and Grandpa were compiled by his children and grandchildren and were presented by Ken’s eldest son Clinton. Many a memory was recalled by the power point presentation. May Barr, long-time friend, recalled “Memories of a Dear Friend”.
Close friends acted as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers were Al Barr, Frank Dietz, Peter Farden, Roy Kenny, Hugh Rowe, Bob Saunders, Lynn Sentz, Dennis Soggie, Greg Thompson, Glen Vollmer, Ross Vollmer and Lorne Willner. Active Pallbearer was Gerald Kenny.

• On Wednesday, September 22, 2010 Mildred Cruise passed away at the age of 90 years following a courageous battle with lung disease.
  She will be lovingly remembered and missed by two sons, Lyle (Judy) and Kelly (Janice); four grandchildren, Laren (Melanie), Kristin (Jeff), Kathryn (Kevin) and Allyse; three great-grandchildren, Dawson, McKenna and Tierny; two brothers-in-law, Ike and Ben (Isabel); sister-in-law, Ruth; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
  Mildred was predeceased by her husband, Fred; her mother; father; and step-father; her brothers, Murray and Sid; her sisters, Lorna, Joyce, Zell and Iris.
  The family wishes to thank Dr. Lang and the staff at the Davidson Health Centre for the care they provided during Mildred’s stay, and the Home Care staff for their assistance while she was at home.
  A funeral service was held on Monday, September 27, 2010 at Davidson United Church with Rev. Diane Eurig officiating. Interment followed at the Davidson Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Davidson Health Foundation.

Born on October 22, 1923 in Davidson, Sask. Passed away Peacefully on September 5, 2010 surrounded by his family.
Survived by his loving wife of 58 years Frances, daughter Linda (Kelvin), son Brian (Suzanne), and granddaughters Loraine, Sheila, Sylvia, and Trudy.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 17 at Burquitlam Funeral Home, 625 North Road, Coquitlam, B.C.
