Ehman, Dennis Robert

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our father and grandfather, Dennis Ehman, who left us suddenly on August 6, 2018. Dennis was born at Holdfast, Saskatchewan, on June 14, 1936. He farmed nearby at Craik, first with his father Robert “Bob,” and later with his son, Tom. He was a graduate of the College of Agriculture, University of Saskatchewan, where he met his bride Gail (O’Hara) Ehman. They married on July 9, 1960, and raised four children on the farm, before retiring into Craik (in summer) and to Mesa, Arizona (in winter). Dennis is predeceased by Gail and their infant son, Michael, and by his parents Robert and Irene. He leaves to mourn his children Amy Jo (John Bertolini), Maureen (Tony Oleskiw), Tom (Tallie) and Jim (Sherrie), and four grandchildren Evan, Emily, Megan and Amanda, as well as his sisters, Elaine Baker and Kathleen Loffler, Gail’s sister Peggy Salmon, and their families. A funeral for Dennis will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 15, at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Craik, followed by a luncheon in the Legion Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully accepted for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s research.

McAlpine, Jean

Margaret Jean McAlpine passed away August 5, 2018 at the Craik Health Centre. Jean was born in Wilnecote. England, November 1, 1924 and grew up in Tamworth with her parents and sister Gwen. She served in the Women’s Land Army during World War II working most of the time at a dairy farm. After the war she corresponded with a friend who was a war bride. She then began writing to their friend Neil McAlpine and in 1952 came to Canada where they met and married. They raised two sons Leonard and Nigel (Jo), on the farm at Aylesbury. They retired to Craik in 2000 and Neil passed away in 2004. She loved her granddaughters, Lynley (Chris Laine) and Jenny (Darren Mason), her cabin at Lovering Lake, her dogs and her tropical fish.
Thanks to the staff at the Craik Health Centre who cared for her in her last months.
A private family burial service will take place at a later date. For those so wishing, memorial donations in memory of Margaret may be directed to the Aylesbury Cemetery Fund.

Schmidt, Delbert

Delbert Schmidt of Tugaske, Sask. passed away in his 87th year on August 6, 2018. He is survived by his wife Margaret and his two children: Mina (Clem) Sanden, and Della Schmidt; his two grandchildren Dillon Sanden and Jessie Sanden. A celebration of life will be held August 18, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Tugaske Town Hall. Arrangements are entrusted to Hanson’s Funeral Home, Davidson, Sask.

Sorotski, Juliann

1944 – 2018

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Juliann Sorotski on July 13, 2018, after a brief battle with cancer. Juliann was born on February 28, 1944 to Joseph and Antonia Matycio. She attended school in Young and then graduated from teacher’s college in Saskatoon. She began a short teaching career before marrying Michael Sorotski on July 14, 1962. Together, they raised five children: Sheree, Glenda, Michelle, Darren and Corelie (Teaka). Juliann worked tirelessly alongside Michael with the family business and farming operations. Even though the farm and business kept her busy, she still found time to serve as a substitute teacher and on the local school board for many years. She always participated as an active member of St. Andrew’s Parish and the CWL. Juliann was one of a kind, and a genuine lady; at all times putting others before herself, ready to lend a helping hand. Juliann was predeceased by her husband Michael; infant daughter Louise; daughter Sheree (missing); daughter-in-law Donna Sorotski; parents Joseph and Antonia Matycio; parents in-law Steve and Anna Sorotski; brother Gordon Matycio, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Juliann is survived by her children Glenda, Michelle, Darren and Corelie (Corey White); grandchildren Lucas, Lauren and Lana Fertuck, Kadence and Keaton Kish, Lexi and Jada White, Junell Sorotski; great-grandson Chase Fertuck; sisters Lillian Tisnic, Josephine Ackerman, Grace (Joe Obee), Gladys Rue, Marion (Walter Srochenski) and Virginia (Arnold Frey); brothers Victor (Iris), Roger, Ronald (Janet) and Ernest (Bette) Matycio. For friends so wishing, memorial donations may be directed to St. Andrew’s church fund or the Davidson Health Centre. The Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Thursday, July 19 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Parish, Kenaston, Sask. Arrangements were entrusted to Hanson’s Funeral Home, Davidson, Sask.  

Kaul, Dolores

Dolores Kaul of Saskatoon, SK and formerly of Davidson, Sask. passed away in her 89th year on July 12, 2018. She is survived by her husband, Adolf Kaul, and her three children: Diane (Erich) Engelhardt, Wendy (Gord) Speirs and Wayne (Sundstrom). In keeping with her wishes, a private service was held in Saskatoon. Arrangements have been entrusted to SASKATOON FUNERAL HOME (306) 244-5577.

HENRY, Vincent Edward E. (Vince)

Sept. 11, 1943 – July 6, 2018

The death of Vince Henry, aged 74 years, of Simpson, Sask. occurred peacefully at the Watrous District Health Complex on Friday, July 6, 2018. Vince was born September 11, 1943 to Edward and Laura Henry. He attended school at Rolling Hills, June Rose and Simpson. He took a record-keeping course by correspondence for three years. He worked on farms, in the V. & G. Store in Simpson and the Pacific 66 Garage in Saskatoon, before going into partnership with his father and brother in the Midway Garage. Vince was a mechanic, business owner and volunteer firefighter. Vince is survived by his common-law spouse Shirley McRae; brothers Wayne (Marj), Victor (Judy) and Leo (Diane); sister-in-law Betty; numerous nephews and nieces; and Shirley’s two son’s Brad (Jill) and Trent (Cassandra) and their family. He was predeceased by his father Ted, mother Laura, sister Loraine, brother Joe and brother-in-law Ace VandeWiele. A graveside service was held in Simpson Cemetery on Wednesday, July 11, 2018. A memorial reception followed in the Simpson Community Centre. Memorial donations directed to Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
