Women arrested after highway pursuit

CRAIK—Two women appeared in Moose Jaw provincial court last Tuesday to answer to several charges, including fleeing from police and possession of stolen property.

They were caught and charged as a result of a near miss with a member of the Craik RCMP detachment

On Sunday night, at about 10:30 p.m., Nov. 25, a Craik RCMP member was conducting a vehicle stop a in the southbound lanes of Highway 11 near Girvin when a stolen vehicle swerved towards the police SUV. Police estimate the vehicle was travelling at 130 kilometres per hour and it almost hit the Craik RCMP member and the vehicle.

The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but when it wouldn’t pull over, he did not pursue it.

A short time later RCMP from other detachments spotted the suspect vehicle near Findlater and began pursuing it. The chase ended once a spike belt was deployed near the valley at Lumsden. Three of the vehicle’s tires were deflated. As a result it slowed to about 10 km/h.

At a low speed, a White Butte RCMP vehicle then struck the suspect vehicle’s rear end, bringing the chase to an end.

Two adult females were arrested.

Menyll Ochuschayoo, 24, of Meadow Lake, is charged with assault with a weapon, two counts of flight from police, possession of stolen property over $5,000 and possession of stolen property under $5,000. Twenty-three-year-old Shanee Axelson, of Regina, is charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000 and five counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000.
